Romanian hacker Guccifer jailed for 52 months after hacking Hillary Clintons private email

A hacker that leaked Hillary Clintons private email account had been jailed for 52 months. The hacker, whose real name is Marcel Lazar, helped expose Hillary Clinton’s private email domain. Lazar, 44, had pleaded guilty in May to unauthorised access to a protected computer and aggravated identity theft. Lazar is believed to have hacked into email accounts of about 100 victims between 2012 and 2014. Sep 2, 2016

Nelson Mandela: First ever TV interview with anti-apartheid leader discovered

This is believed to be South Africas late anti-apartheid leader Nelson Mandelas first ever television appearance. The footage is believed to have dated from 1956. The Nelson Mandela Foundation, an NGO dedicated to Mandelas memory, said in a statement that the 24-second interview was probably taken in 1956 during the Treason Trial, which ended in 1961 with the acquittal of Mandela and dozens of others on charges of treason. Mandela, who died in 2013 aged 95, became South Africas first black president in 1994. He won the Noble Peace Prize in 1993 for his efforts to promote racial reconciliation in his racially-scarred nation. Sep 2, 2016

Cute baby panda takes his first steps and poll to name him is released

This is Baby P and on 31 August the Pairi Daiza zoo in Belgium released this footage for the clumsy fluff-ball trying to master walking. The baby still hasnt been named, so the zoo have released a poll of five Chinese names, letting the public vote for their favourite. The three names with the top votes will go to the panda keepers, who will make the final decision. It is believed that fewer than 2,000 pandas remain in the wild. Baby P is particularly special as panda births in captivity are extremely rare. Austria and Spain are the only other European countries where they have been born. Sep 2, 2016

Youths beat teenager unconscious with a chair whilst robbing him

CCTV footage has been released of a violent attack on a teenager as he was walking along Streatham High Road on 30 April. The 19-year-old victim was knocked unconscious by approximately 10 people, and had his phone and a small amount of cash stolen. Police are appealing for the identity of those shown in the footage who are described as black male teenagers between the ages of 14 and 16. Sep 2, 2016

A team led by Deives de Campos of the UFCSPA in Brazil claims there are several representations of female anatomy. Aleppo children sing to the world in a moving plea for help

Syrian children in Aleppo city appealed to the world to break the city’s siege and seek peace and in a video posted on 31 August. The children sang peace songs and held signs that read “save our children from the siege”. A girl in the video says, in an Aleppo accent, that they are under siege like Daraya but they wouldn’t leave Aleppo. Sep 1, 2016

Russia: Tiny seal refuses to return to the wild

A tiny seal who was found by fisherman in March was released into the wild on 31 August, however, unlike his companion he didnt want to go. When members of the Friends of Baltic Seals Foundation tried to release the two seals named Pasha and Kroshik into the wild, after 15 minutes the smallest seal, Kroshik, decided to come back instead of going it alone. Kroshik was found by fishermen near the village of Sviritsa in the Leningrad Region on March 25 and was later looked after at the Marine Mammal Rehabilitation Centre. The cub was reportedly the smallest of its kind ever to have come to the centre. Sep 1, 2016

La Tomatina festival hosts crowds of around 22,000 tomato throwers

Some 22,000 people gathered for the La Tomatina festival to participate in a mass tomato fight in Bunol. The festival started with trucks full of tomatoes entering the town, with festival goers then showered with tomatoes and encouraged to take part in the fight.
