Residents allowed back into Jarabulus after Isis were removed

Locals started to return to their homes in Jarabulus on 26 August after Islamic State militants were forced out, according to a pro-opposition media group in Aleppo. The Free Syrian Army said it allowed scores of civilians to return to Jarabulus and neighboring villages, Turkey’s state-run Anadolu Agency reported, citing an FSA commander. Barack Obama is to expand Hawaiian marine reserve four-fold

President Barack Obama will dramatically expand the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument off the coast of Hawaii on 26 August, an action that will ban commercial fishing from more than 582,500 sq miles of the Pacific Ocean. The four-fold boost in territory will cover an area with more than 7,000 marine species, including a coral that is the worlds oldest-known living organism at 4,265 years old. Aug 26, 2016

India: Man carried his dead wife for 12km after he was allegedly refused transport from hospital

Dana Majhi said he had no choice but to carry his wife Amang Dei’s body 12km home on his shoulder after she died from tuberculosis in the early hours of 24 August in the district hospital in Bhawanipatna, Odisha OTV, a regional news station in Odisha, recorded this footage of Majhi carrying his wife’s body after they heard about his journey. OTV said Dana had already travelled 12 kilometres with the body when they reached him in Sagada. They contacted the authorities to arrange a mortuary van to carry the body. The District Collector of Kalahandi called for an inquiry into the incident and arranged compensation for Majhi. Aug 26, 2016
