Sun bear rescued after being cadged for seven years

A sun bear kept as a pet for seven years by a family in Xuan Truong district, Vietnam, was rescued by animal rights group Animals Asia on Thursday, 18 August. Sorority recruitment video compared to gates of Hell and criticised for lack of diversity

The University of Texas received its latest sorority recruitment video and it has received backlash on social media. The video, which has since been deleted off Twitter, shows three members of Alpha Delta Pi throwing open the doors to sorority girls singing. Chemical freight train plunges into Chile river after bridge collapses

A freight train has plunged into the Tolten river, Chile, after a bridge dating back to 1898 collapsed. Pitrufquen Mayor Humberto Catalan said around 197 feet of the iron bridge had been destroyed, and a Chilean TV station reported that six carriages carrying sodium hydroxide, chlorate and oil had fallen into the river. They have been nominated for a Nobel Peace prize by over 130 organisation and people around the world. Staged human sacrifice outside Cern campus raises concerns over security

Cern science centre in Geneva has been a focal point of many conspiracy theories over the years, but on 11 August a video was posted online claiming to show a human sacrifice taking place in their grounds. The video has since been revealed to be fake, and illegally filmed. This has caused security concerns for Cern.
