Sadie Hartleys partner was sexting her killer just days before her murder

Sadie Hartley, 60, was stunned with a cattle prod and stabbed 40 times at her home in Helmshore, Lancashire, on 14 January 2016. On 17 August her murderers Sarah Williams, 35, and co-defendant Katrina Walsh, 56, received life sentences with minimum terms of 30 and 25 years for what was described as a brutal and senseless act. The court heard that Williams was obsessed with Hartleys partner Ian Johnson, 57, which was her motive for the killing. It was also revealed that sex texts had been exchanged between Williams and Johnson just 10 days prior to the murder. Aug 18, 2016

Sky news reporter David Bowden attempted to question the retail tycoon Philip Green over the BHS crisis, but was met with hostility as Green threatened calling the police, lunged for the camera as well as threatening to destroy it. Green is being urged by many to stop his holiday on his wifes £100m pound yacht and confront BHSs pension mess, and sort it as pledged he would do in June, when he was confronted by MPs in the House of Commons. The pre-fight conference for Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz in Las Vegas, USA, had to be abandoned when violence broke out. The police had to intervene to separate the two groups when the pair started hurling objects at each other from across the room. UFC featherweight champion McGregor will face welterweight Diaz after losing to him in an earlier bout in March 2016. Aug 18, 2016

Brazil police take US Olympic swimmers off plane home as they investigate armed robbery

On 17 August, Jack Conger and Gunnar Bentz were taken from their flight after Brazilian Judge Keyla Blank issued a search and seizure warrant. This was issued to allow more time for police to ask additional questions related to an alleged armed robbery that happened earlier in the week. Conger and Bentz were with teammates Ryan Lochte and James Feigen when they were allegedly robbed at gunpoint by individuals posing as armed police officers as they traveled back from a party in a taxi. The judge issued the warrant as there were inconsistencies between CCTV of the swimmers arriving back at the Olympic village and what time they said they left the party. The judge also took issue with how the four appeared when they arrived back at the village after the alleged incident took place. Aug 18, 2016

Brazil will meet Germany at the football finals on Saturday (20 August) after thrashing Honduras 6-0 in the semi-finals. Rio 2016 Olympics: GB womens hockey team beat New Zealand to secure first Olympic final

Team GBs women beat the black sticks 3-0, after scoring two penalty strokes in the last 10 minutes of the game. By getting to the final, Great Britains hockey ladies secure themselves at least a silver which will be their best ever result at an Olympics.
