Pregnant woman rescued from burning car by Louisiana photojournalist

Louisiana photojournalist Patrick Perry came to the rescue of a seven-and-a-half-month pregnant woman in a burning car in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on 30 August. Perry was travelling to cover a story with his WBRZ co-worker, Brittany Weiss, when they came across the car burning at the side of a road. This video, shot by Weiss, shows Perry carrying the woman out of the car from the passenger side and away to safety. According to Weiss, the woman was hospitalised and was in a stable condition. Two people reportedly received citations from police in Washington on 24 August, after a four-year-old was thrown off a bridge into a river. According to local reports, a woman described as the boys mother was cited for reckless endangerment and man was cited for the same as well as criminal trespassing. Funerals held for some of the victims of the devastating Italy earthquake

An earthquake that killed over 292 people hit central Italy on 24 August, levelling numerous towns. A funeral was held for some of the victims in Amatrice, where 231 of the 292 victims were killed. There was uproar after the funeral was originally due to be held in Reiti, over 37 miles away, due to the devastation in Amatrice. Ping claimed victory over current President Ali Bongo, who has also said he expected to emerge victorious. Syrian ministry releases promo video to try and boost tourism to war-torn country

The Syrian Ministry of Tourism has released a video titled Syria Always Beautiful, showing the Golden Sands Beach in the coastal city of Tartous. The beach is under the Syrian Government control, but the country has been engaged in civil war since August 2011, as the Free Syrian Army, ISIS and the Assads government all fight for control. The Syrian Ministry claims people entering the country has risen by 30% as of July 2016 compared to the year before, but it did not specify if those numbers were tourism related. Aug 30, 2016

A change in hair style policy at Pretoria Girls High School in Pretoria, South Africa, sparked an anti-racism protest in front of the school on 29 August. According to local reports, black students were instructed to straighten their hair multiple times and the issue quickly began trending on Twitter with the hashtag #StopRacismAtPretoriaGirlsHigh. Hong Kongs first rabbit cafe finds itself in licensing trouble

Ricky Lam has opened Hong Kongs first rabbit cafe Rabbitland. However as well as fears over the safety and welfare of the bunnys the cafe has found itself in some licensing trouble after it was revealed that they dont have a licence to sell food. A spokesperson for the department told the South China Morning Post that the cafe is not covered by any valid food licence and that they had started proceedings against the proprietor. The maximum penalty for operating without a licence is HK$50,000 (£4,900) and six months in prison. Aug 30, 2016

Brazilians protesting the impeachment of President Rousseff clashed with police as they started fires in the street, with military police responding by firing tear gas. Suspended President Dilma Rousseff is on trial for impeachment for allegedly breaking budgetary rules, a charge she denies.
