North Korea conducts its biggest nuclear test yet causing 5.3-magnitude earthquake

North Korea has carried out the nuclear test, that is thought to have been double the strength of their previous test, in response to US hostility. State television said Pyongyang was now capable of mounting nuclear warheads on ballistic rockets, that no leakage of nuclear material had occurred and that there was no environmental impact. Astronomers discover hundreds of black holes hiding in the star system

Astronomers at University of Surrey found evidence of black holes in the globular cluster NGC 6101. Using computer simulation they showed that the clusters strange appearance can be explained if stellar mass black holes are still present in the cluster. A streetwise cat managed to successfully use a zebra crossing in Dartford on 4 September, carefully waiting for cars to come to a stop before crossing St Vincents road. Samsung Galaxy Note 7 mass recall after reports of device exploding while charging

Samsungs mass recall of the Galaxy Note 7 smartphones worldwide over faulty batteries may cut the Korean companys 2016 second-half operating profit by about 820bn won ($738m, £554m) as per an analyst report. Another report says the total cost borne the company could well amount to $1bn. The company announced a global recall of the recently launched Note 7 smartphone last week after receiving close to 35 official complaints of malfunctioning most of which were related to batteries that caught fire while being charged. Justice League stars support Dakota Access Pipeline protesters

The stars of the upcoming DC superhero movie Justice League offered their support for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe as the battle to preserve water and land from the proposed Dakota Access Pipeline continues. Ben Affleck, Ray Fisher, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, and Ezra Miller all feature in the video urging people to get involved in the movement. The Dakota Access Pipeline is planned to reach from North Dakota to Illinois, and current plans see it placed less than a mile from the Standing Rock Reservation, raising fears of potential contamination of the tribes drinking water and resources.
