Arvind Kejriwal files nomination from Varanasi

Varanasi, April 23 (ANI): AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday filed his nomination papers for Lok Sabha polls. Kejriwal is contesting from the Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency against BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi and Congress candidate Ajay Rai. Varanasi will observe polls on May 12 in the last of the nine phase General Elections, the result of which is due on May 16.

Complaint against Madhusudan Mistry, sits on dharna

Vadodara, April 23 (ANI): Congress candidate in Vadodara Madhusudan Mistry has been clouded in controversies for publishing an allegedly defamatory pamphlet against BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi. Thereafter, police had registered a complaint under various sections of IPC. Mistry, sitting on a dharna, opposed the complaint saying that he should not be particularly targeted as the pamphlet was distributed from the party’s side in entire Gujarat. He also stated that he was sitting on a dharna to make people aware. The pamphlet accuses Modi in the context of corruption and also refers to the snooping scandal involving a young woman architect.

Non-bailable warrant issued against Giriraj over 'Pakistan' remark

Bokaro, Apr 23 (ANI): A non bailable warrant has been issued against Bharatiya Janata Party leader Giriraj Singh over his controversial 'Pakistan remark'. This comes a day after the Election Commission banned Singh from holding any public rallies or meetings and gave him time till April 24 to file a reply. The EC had banned him from holding public meetings, public processions, rallies and road shows in Bihar and Jharkhand.

Kejriwal slams Modi, Rahul for 'helicopter politics' during his roadshow

Varanasi, April 23 (ANI): On his way to file his nomination papers for the Lok Sabha polls from Varanasi, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday stepped up his attack on BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi. During his roadshow, Kejriwal condemned their helicopter politics and criticized the condition of Varanasi's infrastructure and spoke about citizens' problems. He also talked about Gandhi's constituency saying all the people of Amethi see the Congress vice-president in his helicopter only and when people go to him in Delhi they are beaten up and driven away.

EC holds vintage car rally in Ludhiana to raise voter awareness

Ludhiana, April 23 (ANI): The Election Commission organized a vintage car rally on Wednesday as part of its election awareness drive in Ludhiana city of Punjab to encourage voters to cast their ballot during the ongoing mammoth general elections. The participants held flags and shouted slogans to spread awareness among the voters to exercise their franchise. Meanwhile, an onlooker, Ramneet Kaur, called it a novel idea to motivate people to turn out in huge numbers on voting day. The elections to choose members to the 543-seat Lok Sabha are spread over five weeks in nine separate phases and will end on May 12. Results would be announced on May 16.

Raging fire engulfs two factories in Gujarat and Maharashtra

Gujarat/ Maharashtra, April 23 (ANI): Raging fire engulfed the warehouse of a chemical factory and a cloth industrial unit in Vapi city of Gujarat as firefighters struggled to douse the inferno. Goods worth millions were reduced to ashes. Around five fire tenders immediately reached the spot to douse the blaze. Police Sub-Inspector of Vapi, Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC), RF Bariya, said that the fire fighters battled to douse the fire. Meanwhile, four factories and a godown were also gutted by fire in Bhiwandi city in Thane, Maharashtra.
