Chandrababu Naidu targets Sonia, says Congress creating Telangana only for votes

New Delhi, Oct 07 (ANI): Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu, who began his indefinite fast in the national capital today against the creation of a separate Telangana state, blamed the Congress of playing politics over the bifurcation of the state. He also accused the Congress and Centre of being only interested in votes and not the welfare of the people. He said that the Congress was trying to win over YSR Congress chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and also eying an alliance with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS). He also took a jibe at Congress president Sonia Gandhi by using Italian terms to explain the extent of the crisis in Andhra Pradesh.

Principal denies sexual harassment allegations by DU ex lab staff

New Delhi, Oct 07 (ANI): Principal GK Arora of Bhim Rao Ambedkar College on Monday denied allegations of physical and mental harassment by a former laboratory assistant of the college. The lab assistant, who had set herself on fire seven days ago after alleging sexual harassment by Arora, succumbed to her injuries today.

Residents bear brunt of anti- bifurcation protests in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh, Oct 7 (ANI): As the announcement of the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh evoked violent protests, locals continued to suffer as normal life came to a halt, in wake of the curfew clamped by authorities in the region. Deepening the crisis, the electricity department employees struck work, plunging large parts of the region into darkness. As a result of the power situation, many trains were cancelled on Monday. Southern Railway has cancelled a number of trains between Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh tomorrow, due to the violent agitations by some workers of Andhra Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation over the Telangana issue.

Delhi celebrates Navratras

New Delhi, Oct 7 (ANI): The Hindu festival of Navratras is a period of great joy and celebrations for devout Hindus across India. The nine-day long Navratri festival is dedicated to Goddess Durga. The festival was celebrated with grand fervour in Gole Market area of New Delhi where devotees assembled at a temple and participated in the elaborate prayer session. Chief Minister of Delhi Shiela Dixit also participated in the Navratras celebrations and wished everyone a very happy Navratras. It is believed that during the days of Navratri, Goddess Durga descends on earth to rid it of demons and bless her devotee subjects with happiness and prosperity. The nine-day festival of Navaratri culminates on the festival of Dussehra, which falls on the tenth day.

Surat Police issues lookout notice against Asaram's son Narayan Sai

New Delhi, Oct 7 (ANI): The Surat Police on Monday issued a lookout notice against controversial self-styled godman Asaram Bapu's son Narayan Sai. The latest development in this regard comes a day after fresh sexual assault complaints were registered against Asaram and Narayan Sai in Surat. According to reports, two sisters have lodged rape cases against Asaram and Narayan Sai alleging sexual assault between 2002 and 2004. According to the FIR, Asaram raped the elder sister at Ahmedabad ashram and his son raped the younger one in Surat between 2002-04. Asaram, 72, was arrested on September 1 on allegations of sexual assault on a minor at his ashram in Jodhpur and is currently in jail.

SC proposes 3-member panel for IPL spot-fixing scandal

New Delhi, Oct 7 (ANI): In a setback to N Srinivasan’s hopes of taking charge as BCCI president for a third term, the Supreme Court of India proposed a three-member panel to investigate the IPL spot-fixing scandal on Monday and extended the hearing of the case to Tuesday. The apex court today proposed that the new probe panel will be headed by former Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court, Mukul Mudgal, and will also consist of senior Supreme Court lawyers, L Nageshwar Rao and Nilesh Dutta. Meanwhile, a petitioner, Aditya Sinha, said to mediapersons that the Court has scrapped off the pleas to re-consider Srinivasan’s case.

Maoists slain yet another innocent villager in Jharkhand

Palamu, Oct 7 (ANI): Acting with brazen impunity, Maoists have killed a villager in Jharkhand, triggering fear among the locals, Police have informed. The villager, Kameshwar Bhuiya, was killed by at least 10 to 15 Maoists. The Assistant Superintendent of Police, P Murugan, said that a case has also been registered but the Maoists had fled from the area. A relative of the deceased villager, Babu Lal, said that he was killed by the Maoists while he tried to save the lives of two villagers from them. Hundreds of people lose their life in the violence, perpetrated by the rebels.

Son of Jamaat founder says it has no right to do politics in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Oct 7 (ANI): Syed Haider Farooq Maudoodi, son of Syed Abul A'la Maudoodi who was founder of Jamaat-e-Islami has said that the religion-based party should not be allowed to continue politics in Bangladesh on the grounds that it opposed the country's birth. Syed Haider Farooq Maudoodi, who was brought up under fundamental ideologies of Syed Abul A'la Maududi, along with all his nine siblings said he has never been involved with Jamaat-e-Islami's politics. While addressing mediapersons in national capital, Dhaka, on his first visit there after the liberation war, Syed Haider Farooq Maudoodi, who is now a columnist in Lahore, Pakistan, slammed the concept of using religion in politics.

Andhra Unrest: Political parties continue to play blame game

Ambedkar College principal face molestation charge; alleged victim attempts immolation, dies

New Delhi, Oct 07 (ANI): A former Delhi University (DU) employee, who tried to commit suicide by setting herself on fire in front of Delhi Secretariat, succumbed to her burns on Monday. Pavitra Bhardwaj, a resident of northeast Delhi's Maujpur area, had been allegedly forced to quit her job and subjected to repeated instances of sexual harassment by the principal of her college. She was allegedly being sexually harassed by a college principal.

Pranab Mukherjee admits to slowdown in India's economy
