Jayalalitha declares world chess championship open

Chennai, Nov 08 (ANI): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha declared the world chess championship open, setting the stage for a clash between chess titans. India's defending world champion, Vishwanathan Anand would take on the Norwegian Challenger Magnus Carlsen, from Saturday. This 12-match series was being organized by FIDE, the world chess federation. Jayalalitha said that an amount of 29 crore rupees has been allotted for the championship. The 43-year-old Indian chess ace, Anand, had dominated the sports and remained a world champion since 2007. 24-year-old Carlsen, on the other hand, was the youngest player to top the world rankings, when he was just 19.
