State can make its land acquisition bill, but it has to be at par with centre's bill: Jairam

Bangalore, Oct 24 (ANI): The new Land Acquisition Act formulated by the Congress-led central government allows the state government to make their own land acquisition bill provided that it is at par with Centre's bill. Rural Development Minister, Jairam Ramesh stated this while addressing a news conference at Bangalore on Thursday. Ramesh added that the Bill also gives fair importance to the Gram Sabha and Panchayat.

Medical negligence case: SC orders Kolkata's AMRI hospital to pay Rs 5.96 cr

New Delhi, Oct 24 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Thursday awarded Rs 5.96 crore as compensation to be paid by Kolkata-based AMRI Hospital and three doctors to a US-based Indian-origin doctor for medical negligence, which led to the death of his wife in 1998. The apex court asked the hospital and the doctors to pay the amount within eight weeks to Kunal Saha. This is the highest compensation ever paid in a medical negligence case in India.

Onion prices likely to fall in 2-3 weeks: Sharad Pawar

New Delhi, Oct 24 (ANI): Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar on Thursday said that no drop in onion production is expected due to some crop damage because of rains. He said that the prices are likely to fall in the next 2-3 weeks. The minister said that the Centre will release Rs 921.98 crore to Maharashtra for the damages caused to onion crop due to excess rains. There is no real scarcity of onions, Commerce Minister Anand Sharma, said, adding that the prices are expected to stabilize in the coming few weeks.

Sheila Dikshit assures onion prices to come down soon

New Delhi, Oct 24 (ANI): In the wake of rising prices of onion, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit after meeting Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and Food Minister KV Thomas on Thursday assures that the prices of onions will come down soon enough. Dikshit confirmed that the onions are coming in better quantity now which will ease the prices. Aspiring Indian designer makes it to New York Fashion Week
