Syrian Ambassador denies charges of use of chemical weapons by government

New Delhi, Nov 1 (ANI): The Syrian ambassador, Riad Abbas, while interacting with media persons said that the Syrian government did not use chemical weapons. On the contrary, he said such weapons are used by rebels on their ground. He also added that the present condition of Syria is an American conspiracy to instill militancy and fear in the country. Further, Abbas also said the country is fighting against militancy aiming at freedom for the country. Meanwhile, the international chemical weapons watchdog announced on Thursday that Syria has destroyed or rendered inoperable all of its declared chemical weapons production and mixing facilities, meeting a major deadline in an ambitious disarmament programme.

Security beefed up ahead of Modi's rally in Pune

Pune, Nov 01 (ANI): The security personnel have made tight security arrangements for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's rally in Pune on Friday against the backdrop of Sunday's serial blasts in Patna. According to reports, Modi, who will arrive around 1.30 p.m., will be received by Maharashtra BJP chief Devendra Fadnavis. Several other senior Maharashtra BJP leaders will also be present at today's rally. Six people were killed and 83 injured in the low intensity blasts that rocked Patna between 9.30 a.m. and 12.45 p.m. on Sunday shortly before Modi's address to a 'Hunkar rally' in Gandhi Maidan.

The Election Commission has issued a notice to Rahul Gandhi for his speeches in Churu, Rajasthan on October 23 and Indore, Madhya Pradesh on October 24. The poll body has asked the Congress number two to explain by Monday why action should not be initiated against him for prima facie violating the Model Code of Conduct. The Election Commission notice also says that in case no reply is received within the prescribed time limit it will be presumed that he has nothing to say and the commission will proceed to take appropriate action without any further reference.

Patna blasts: Main suspect Tariq dies

Patna, Nov 01 (ANI): Ainul alias Tarique, a terror suspect who was injured in the Patna blasts, died on Friday at a government hospital. Ainul, the second suspect, was apprehended while he was crying in pain at the Patna railway junction toilet soon after a bomb which he was trying to fit with a timer exploded. Six of the seven blasts took place at Patna's Gandhi Maidan on October 27. The seventh explosion was at the railway station.
