New Delhi, Oct 31 (ANI): The nation pays homage to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 29th death anniversary today. President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and other dignitaries paid floral tributes at her memorial Shakti Sthal here. Several functions have been organised throughout the country today to highlight India's first woman Prime Minister's contribution in nation building. Indira Gandhi, who was the Prime Minister of the country from 1966 to 1976 and again from 1980 to 1984, was assassinated by two of her Sikh bodyguards at her residence on October 31, 1984. Three men were killed as mobs from Hussain Kalan village and neighbouring Mohammadpur village clashed on Mohammadpur Road, about 35 km from Muzaffarnagar, while in a separate clash one woman was killed. Reports suggest that a woman was killed when she along with her husband was attacked by a mob. The woman was killed on the spot, however her husband survived and is admitted in a Meerut hospital.
