Fodder scam: Jharkhand HC rejects Lalu Yadav's bail plea

Ranchi, Oct 31 (ANI): The Jharkhand High Court on Thursday rejected the bail plea of former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, who is serving a five-year prison sentence in connection with the multi-crore fodder scam case. The 66-year-old Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief had moved the court on Wednesday, but the latter chose to reserve its order for Thursday after hearing the CBI counsel's objections to granting Lalu bail.

Muzaffarnagar fresh violence: BJP asks SP govt to take strict action

New Delhi, Oct 31 (ANI): Despite opposition from the Tamil Nadu Assembly, PM Manmohan Singh is likely to go to Colombo for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) reportedly. Fresh violence in Muzaffarnagar is result of vote-bank politics of SP Govt: BJP

New Delhi, Oct 31 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday condemned the fresh violence in Muzaffarnagar, saying this is the result of vote-bank politics of the Akhilesh Yadav-led Uttar Pradesh Government. Four people, including a woman, have been killed in two incidents of violence in Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, where communal clashes last month had left over 60 dead and 45,000 homeless. The clashes occurred in the Bhaurankalan police station area, when people from two communities fought a pitched battle in which three youngsters were shot dead. The administration has imposed Section 144 in the area to avoid any untoward incident.

Fresh Muzaffarnagar violence: cases against 15, eight arrested

Lucknow, Oct 31 (ANI): Even as at least four people were killed in two separate incidents of violence in Muzaffarnagar district, Uttar Pradesh ADG (Law and Order) Mukul Goel said that 15 people have been accused for this incident out of which 8 have been arrested. Three men were killed as mobs from Hussain Kalan village and neighbouring Mohammadpur village clashed on Mohammadpur Road, about 35 km from Muzaffarnagar, while in a separate clash one woman was killed. Reports suggest that a woman was killed when she along with her husband was attacked by a mob. The woman was killed on the spot, however her husband survived and is admitted in a Meerut hospital. Both the incidents took place in the Budhana area which falls in rural Muzzaffarnagar.

SC reduces political pressure on bureaucrats

New delhi, oct 31 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the central and state governments to pass orders within three months on giving fixed tenures to civil servants. In its order, the apex court said that fixed tenures for bureaucrats will promote professionalism, efficiency and good governance. The Supreme Court also directed the Parliament to enact a law to regulate transfer, posting and disciplinary action of IAS officers and to immunize them from political interference.

Narendra Modi to lay Sardar Patel statue foundation stone today

New Delhi, Oct 31 (ANI): Narendra Modi will today inaugurate the construction of what he bills as the world's biggest statue, a 182-metre iron and bronze structure being built at a cost of Rs. 2074 crore to honour India's "iron man" Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 138th birth anniversary. BJP leader Captain Abhimanyu said that today is the landmark day in the history of the nation and 1.5 crore people are proud today as they are being able to commemorate the works of Mr. Sardar Patel. Hamid Ansari meets Cuban President on his visit to Havana

Havana, Oct 31 (ANI): Vice-President Hamid Ansari met Cuban President Raul Castro during his two-day state visit to the country, during which the two countries inked four agreements to strengthen bilateral ties. Ansari arrived in Cuba on October 29 to hold talks with the political leadership on bilateral and multilateral issues. The two countries signed an agreement on cooperation in broadcasting between India’s government run Prasar Bharti and Cuban Radio and Television Institute. Ansari, who held delegation level talks with Cuban leaders, also visited the Biotechnology Centre in Cuba and appreciated the "pioneering work" done by it and talked about the possibilities for collaboration between the two countries in the field.

Kirti Azad on special scheme for minority brides in Karnataka

New Delhi, Oct 31(ANI): In a bold move, Karnataka government has launched a scheme that from November 1, Muslim brides from families with annual income less than Rs 1.5 lakh can claim financial support of Rs 50,000 either in cash, gold or house hold articles from the state government. Reacting to this BJP leader Kirti Azad said that everyone who need help should get privilege when it comes to financial and social help and vote bank politics should not be done with it. The project launched by the Department of Minority Welfare will give the bride a voice and set aside an initial sum of Rs 10 crore with the aim of supporting atleast 2,000 marriages by the end of this financial year. According to sources at the state directorate of minorities, the project was launched last Monday without any fanfare.
