Ecuador: Tungurahua volcano spews smoke and ash in fiery eruption

Ecuadors Tungurahua volcano erupted on 2 March, spewing smoke and ash high into the air in several fiery explosions. Volcanologists began registering increased activity at Tungurahua on 27 February and noted the tremors and eruptions intensified in ensuing days. The Secretariat of Risk Management issued an orange alert at that point. Mar 3, 2016

Martin Crowe: Tributes pour in after ex-New Zealand cricket captain dies at 53

Tributes flowed in on 3 March for former New Zealand cricket captain Martin Crowe, who died after a long battle with cancer at age 53. Widely considered New Zealands finest batsman, Crowe was initially diagnosed with follicular lymphoma in 2012 before the disease went into remission. In September 2014, however, Crowe said a more aggressive form, double-hit lymphoma, had developed and he had been told only five percent survive more than 12 months. Calais jungle: Refugees sew mouths shut to protest treatment

Refugees and migrants in France sewed their lips together in protest over their treatment in the Calais camp known as the jungle. Seven men, mostly from Iran, demonstrated in front of French police as the deconstruction of the shanty town in France continued after a judge upheld a government order last week to evict migrants living in the southern part of the camp. Airbus sees no serious impact from China economy slowdown

European plane maker Airbus broke ground on its first wide-body completion plant outside of Europe in China on 2 March, while its CEO Fabrice Bregier said he saw no serious impact on the China plane market from slowing economy. Airbus marked the handover of a completion and delivery centre for its wide-body A330 in Beijings neighbouring city of Tianjin, which will be a new addition to its existing assembly plant for A320 planes. Kenyas doping problem is a big issue said David Rudisha, but the Olympic 800 metres champion hopes his country is on the right track to restoring its reputation. The 27-year-old, who lit up the 2012 London Games with a brilliant world record performance in the 800m final, has been distressed by the allegations of doping and corruption that have rocked the East African countrys athletics programme. F1: Reborn Renault team look forward to returning to the grid as constructors

Renault Sport managing director Cyril Abiteboul said on 1 March that the French carmaker knows what it takes to be successful as they return to the Formula 1 starting grid as a constructor. Renault bought back Lotus F1, which they had sold at the end of 2009 after winning championships with Spaniard Fernando Alonso in 2005 and 2006, last December. They will now compete under the Renault Sport Formula One name, with Renault branding prominent, along with that of the Infiniti luxury marque, which is part of the Renault-Nissan alliance. Scottish residents reported seeing a bright flash of light streaking across the night sky on 29 February. The phenomenon was captured on CCTV and dashcam, and images and video clips began circulating on social media. Syria ceasefire: Amateur video purports to show Russian airstrikes despite truce

Amateur video uploaded on a social media website on 1 March, purports to show a Russian plane firing rockets over the Syrian town of Harbnafseh despite a cessation of hostilities agreement in force since 27 February. The footage shows large plumes of smoke rising in several locations in Hamas southern province following explosions, whilst jets can be heard flying overhead, a breach of the fragile truce.
