New Delhi, Sept 06 (ANI): Political leaders on Saturday reacted over, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh's letter to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah seeking land for Kashmiri Pandits. Rajnath, in his letter to Omar suggested that the land may be identified near the respective native places the Kashmiri pandits migranted from. Rajnath Singh had also advised that such areas must be selected taking into consideration, the availability of adequate security in close proximity of the place. At present there are about 62,000 registered Kashmiri Pandit families in the country who migrated from the Kashmir Valley to either Jammu, Delhi or to other parts of the country due to militancy in the state in early 1990s. Dharamshala, Sep 06 (ANI): Tibetans-in-exile living in Dharamsala town of Himachal Pradesh react to South Africa's decision to deny a visa to their spiritual leader the Dalai Lama, for the third time in five years. The Dalai Lama, who lives in exile in India and is at loggerheads with China over Tibet, had been hoping to join a Nobel peace conference in Cape Town next month. Lama had reportedly withdrew his application after being told it would be unsuccessful. Penpa Tsering, speaker of Tibetan parliament in-exile said that it was unfortunate that the South African government denied visa to Dalai Lama who is an international messenger of peace. The South African foreign ministry confirmed that its High Commission in New Delhi had received the visa application but denied it had been rejected and said that it was being subjected to "normal due process". Rajouri/ Srinagar/ Kathua/ Sopore, Sep 06 (ANI): Nearly 100 people were killed due to floods in Kashmir, said state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah as all the rivers have been flowing above the danger mark due to incessant rains. Authorities declared a disaster alert in the Himalayan region after two days of heavy rain that hit Kashmir valley, causing the worst flooding in two decades. The police and army have begun rescue operations as floods, triggered by heavy rains, washed away bridges and houses and marooned people. Abdullah said the major challenge was to rehabilitate flood hit victims. Home Minister Rajnath Singh held a meeting in New Delhi to review the flood situation and has dispatched members of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to assist the state government. Kanpur, Sep 06 (ANI): A 20-year-old mechanical engineering student at Government Polytechnic College in Kanpur committed suicide in his hostel room after allegedly being ragged and beaten up by his seniors. The student was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his hostel room by his roommate. The deceased student's brother, Pradeep Vishwakarma said that this certainly is a case of ragging and blamed the college authorities for the same. Meanwhile, a co-student said that the deceased was beaten by the senior and that he didn't attend the class for two days in their fear. The police and forensic team have started investigation into the case. An FIR has been filed against two senior students- Karan and Vijay- as well as other unidentified students after a complaint was filed by the brother of the deceased.
