Nobel Peace laureate congratulates India for its support to Tibet

Dharamsala, Oct 4 (ANI): American Nobel Peace Laureate, Jody Williams has said that India should be congratulated for the support it has extended to Tibet over the years. Williams, who along with another Peace Laureate, Shirin Ebadi, was in Dharamsala after boycotting the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates scheduled in South Africa. They arrived at Dharamsala for the 25th anniversary of conferment of the Nobel Peace Prize on the 14th Dalai Lama on Thursday (October 02). A government of exiled Tibetans and tens of thousands of refugees are based in India. China, which regards the Dalai Lama as a dangerous separatist, has ruled Tibet with an iron fist since Communist troops marched in 1950. Oct 4, 2014

Villagers near Indo- Pak border bear brunt of ongoing ceasefire violations

R S Pura/ Srinagar/ New Delhi, Oct 04 (ANI): Villagers living near the Indo-Pak border remained in fear throughout the night as Pakistan continued to shell mortars to target Indian positions on the international border in RS Pura sector of Jammu district. A fresh ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops in the Swajian sector of Poonch left two people injured last night from the same village. The village sarpanch of Kake-de-Kothe village, a grandfather and grandson duo, were injured in the firing. Unprovoked firing by Pakistan side have also led to loss of property of the nearby villagers who are dreading under fear nights by night as the ceasefire violations are continued for days. Earlier on Friday, one civilian was killed, while four others were injured in Swajian sector. Injured were immediately taken to hospital. Meanwhile, Congress leader Rashid Alvi said that government needs to take strong position over the issue. Oct 4, 2014

Hospital authorities remain apathetic to stampede victims in Patna

Patna, Oct 04 (ANI): Hospital authorities on Saturday were apathetic to the people who are looking for their family members in wake of a stampede that claimed more than 30 lives in Patna. At least 33 people were killed and over 100 injured in a stampede during Dussehra festival celebrations in Patna on Friday, most of them women and a few children. A huge crowd had gathered at an outdoor venue for the burning of effigies of demon king Ravana and his brothers as a part of the Dussehra festival. The stampede happened as people were leaving at the end of the event. On Saturday, the distraught victims could not enter the hospital mortuary to recognize the dead bodies of their family members as gate remained closed due to absence of the concerned person.
