Civilians injured, houses damaged as Pak rangers resort to unprovoked firing in J and K

Poonch, Oct 03 (ANI): Some civilians sustained injuries while some lost their houses as Pakistani Rangers violated ceasefire and resorted to unprovoked firing on the Indian positions along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. The entire Gagrian village in the Poonch sector was affected in the firing. According to the villagers of Gagrian, the firing continued till midnight and almost all civilians stayed awake all night. The injured were taken to the hospital immediately. Ahmed said the entire locality got strong tremors as bombs started falling on the village. He added the government should initiate steps to find out permanent solution for people living on the India-Pakistan border. Oct 3, 2014

Two militants of Hizbul Mujahideen killed in J and K encounter

Pulwama, Oct 03 (ANI): Two militants of separatist outfit Hizbul Mujahideen were killed in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. Reportedly, the security forces got information about the presence of these militants and acted upon it. The militants opened fire while the forces were closing in on the hideout of these militants. Of the two militants killed, one has been identified as Riyaz Naikoo while the other is said to be a top militant of the outfit. Hizbul Mujahideen is a Kashmiri separatist group designated as a militant organisation by India. It is active in Jammu and Kashmir since 1989. Further re-enforcement have reached the encounter site to ensure that the hiding terrorist do not succeed in escape from the area under the cover of darkness. Oct 3, 2014

Modi urged people to buy khadi products thereby helping poor in some way. He promised to make his radio address a fortnightly occurrence, saying that he would try to speak to the nation over radio at least two Sundays a month at 11:00 AM. The prime minster also asked people to gain back their self-respect and confidence and work for a better country. He also asked people to connect to him and send their suggestions regularly. Pakistan says India inflexible on Siachen

Islamabad, Oct 03 (ANI): Pakistan's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said India had never responded positively on proposals regarding the demilitarization of the Siachen Glacier, where Pakistani and Indian troops have fought at altitudes of over 20,000 feet in temperatures of minus 60 degrees Celsius for 28 years. Aslam said a proposal to demilitarize Siachen and declare it as a Peace Park had cropped up during bilateral discussions in the past, but Indian policy towards resolution of this issue always remained inflexible. She said the proposal had been made with the aim of finding a peaceful solution to the conflict region in order to help the regeneration of ecosystems affected by the conflict. The prime minister is to deliver his first radio address to be broadcasted on the state-owned All India Radio. The initiative would help Modi connect directly with millions across the country who have no access to TV. The programme titled 'Man ki Baat' will be aired at 11:00 am, and is likely to dominate the entire broadcasting space.
