Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 5 (ANI): Muslims in Kerala attended morning prayers and greeted each other in mosques and open grounds on the occasion of Eid-al-Adha on Sunday, marking the end of annual Haj in holy land of Mecca. The festival, also known as the Feast of the Sacrifice, is a day to commemorate the Prophet Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail on God's command. Men, women and children attended the morning prayers that were held at the central stadium in Thiruvananthapuram city. Kashmir to witness gloomy Eid-al-Adha this year due to floods

Srinagar, Oct 05 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing subdued preparations for Eid this time due to the floods that devastated the state last month, leaving hundreds dead and thousands homeless. There is no rush in the markets or festivity to be seen. The animal traders in Srinagar city say this year they have less to offer for animal sacrifices as most of their livestock perished in the floods. The blockage of transport system due to damage to infrastructure has also marred their business. India would be observing Eid-al-Adha, one of the two most important festivals in the Islamic calendar, on Monday. It marks the end of an annual Haj or pilgrimage to Mecca. Bikash Dutta, 45 and his father Madhu, 65, died after their throats were slit. Bikash Dutta was the president of Trinamool Congress Local Committee in Hatgram within Bankura district's Indpur community. Talking to mediapersons, party leader Subhasis Batabyal said few miscreants whose aim is to break the party and grab power might be the cause behind this brutal killing. New Delhi, Oct 5 (ANI): The Indian men's hockey team, which won gold medal in the 17th Asian Games after defeating Pakistan, received a grand welcome upon its arrival in New Delhi on Sunday. A group of traditional dancers performed to the beats of drums. The Indian team defeated Pakistan 4-2 to win a Gold after a gap of 16 years. India, which last won the gold in the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok, has also bagged direct entry to 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro after it beat Pakistan in the shoot out. However, the Indian team's coach, Terry Walsh, cautioned the players to continue working hard. India now has a total of 57 medals, which includes 11 Gold, 10 Silver and 36 Bronze.
