Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik reviews preparedness for Cyclone Hudhud

Bhubaneswar, Oct 9 (ANI): Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursady held a review meeting in the wake of the 'Cyclone Hudhud' alert issued for the state. Meanwhile, the National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC), which is chaired by Union Cabinet Secretary Ajit Kumar Seth, also reviewed the preparedness for dealing with the aftermath of Cyclone Hudhud, which is likely to hit the coasts of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh on October 12. The Cabinet Secretary asked representatives of all Central Ministries, Departments and Chief Secretaries of the concerned State Governments to take necessary steps for preparedness to meet any eventuality from the cyclone. In wake of the cyclonic storm "Hudhud", the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has placed its five Battalions situated at Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal and Bihar on high alert. At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty closed 117.85 points up to stand at 7,960.55. NCC and DEN were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 14.81% and 11.00% along with RAYMOND and BHEL with an increase of 8.42% and 8.37% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include RASOYA PROTEINS LTD. and SUZLON with a decrease of 4.91% and 3.90% along with TECH MAHINDRA LTD. and MINDTREE with a decrease of 2.60% and 2.18% at the close of the markets. The Auto sector is up 170.12 points at 17,844.10 while the banking sector is up 441.80 points at 18,017.86 and the reality sector is up 41.09 points at 1,616.78. Cyclone alert for Odisha, Andhra Pradesh

Puri / Visakhapatnam, Oct 9 (ANI): The cyclonic storm Hudhud is getting closer to the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh coast leading to a cyclone warning for Andaman and Nicobar Islands and cyclone alert for north coastal Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts. The government officials say adequate measures have been taken to tackle the situation and its aftermath. Cyclone Hudhud is moving in from the Bay of Bengal and is forecast to bring gales of up to 140 kmph (87 mph), heavy rains and storm surges when it hits the coast of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha on October 12 afternoon. However, the fishing community is scared as the government has not informed them of the approaching cyclone. According to an official of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Visakhapatnam, D Srinivasan, an alert has already been sounded in the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh. Oct 9, 2014
