AAP protest in Chennai for release of fishermen

Chennai, Nov 08 (ANI): The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday went on a hunger strike demanding the Central Government to take necessary steps to bring back the five fishermen who are facing death sentences in Sri Lanka. About 75 AAP cadres took part in this hunger strike. They raised slogans demanding the central government to take necessary legal steps to release the fishermen. The Colombo High Court had earlier this month sentenced five Indian fishermen to death on charges of drug smuggling. They had been arrested on a boat in the seas off northern Jaffna's Delft islet. Tirumala, Nov 08 (ANI): Sri Lankan Prime Minister DM Jayaratne offered prayers at the famed Tirupati temple of Lord Venkateswara in hill town of Tirumala, near pilgrimage city of Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh. The temple is deeply revered by Hindus and is one of the most venerated pilgrimage centres in India. This was Jayaratne’s second visit to the temple. He had earlier offered prayers in 1994. Goa CM Manohar Parrikar tenders his resignation

New Delhi, Nov 08 (ANI): Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has tendered his resignation to take up the post of Union defence minister on Sunday. Parrikar faxed his resignation to Goa governor Mridula Sinha. Sinha is out of station and is likely to arrive in the state in the afternoon in time for the swearing-in ceremony of the new chief minister scheduled at 4:00 PM. The BJP legislative committee is set to meet at noon to decide on the new Goa chief minister and the new leader will be elected at 4:00 in the evening. Parrikar is scheduled to go to Delhi on Saturday evening after the new chief minister takes over the charge. Parrikar will also file his nomination on Monday for Rajya Sabha seat from Lucknow. A private company is investing into power project in Baramulla district by mobilising water resources of the Kashmir valley, which after completion would generate 8 MW of electricity supply to the adjoining villages. The residents welcomed the project which would resolve problems of power outages. Poonch, Nov 08 (ANI): The power department of Jammu and Kashmir has started working on restoration work of power supply after the valley was destroyed in the recent floods. Hundreds of people were killed and thousands of villages were devastated by the worst flooding in decades in the Kashmir valley in September. Meanwhile, an executive engineer of Electricity Division in Poonch district, Mohammad Maqbool Nayak, said that one of the transformers in the area was damaged, which led to power crisis in the area. He further said they had borrowed power from Rajouri district and are working on installing another transformer to meet the requirements.
