Madhuri Dixit, UNICEF brand ambassador, dedicates Literature Carnival in Lucknow to Child Rights

Lucknow, Nov 23 (ANI): With UNICEF celebrating 25 years of its Convention on the Rights of the Child, brand ambassador, Madhuri Dixit recently dedicated the Lucknow Literature Carnival to children in Lucknow. At an event, Dixit also addressed child sexual abuse, bullying, child labour, sanitation and health issues. The carnival, a three-day event, organized by Lucknow Expressions Society is scheduled to start from November 28 and will culminate on November 30. Lucknow Literature carnival is conducted on the lines of the Jaipur Literature Festival and would include book launches, literary readings, workshops, screenings and cultural performances. Dixit, UNICEF's goodwill advocate, said that she always wanted to reach out to kids. Dixit felt that there is a dearth of writers who could write good books for children. Nov 23, 2014

Department of epidemics in Coimbatore organises awareness meet on Ebola

Coimbatore, Nov 23 (ANI): The Department of Epidemics in Coimbatore city on Sunday organised an awareness meet to make medical and paramedical staff more sensitive about treating patients diagnosed with the dreaded Ebola. India quarantined a man who was cured of Ebola in Liberia but continued to show traces of the virus in samples of his semen after arriving in the country, Health Minister said. The ministry said that the Indian national tested negative for Ebola in tests conforming to World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines, but had been quarantined as a precautionary measure when he arrived at New Delhi airport on November 10. Around 400 doctors and physicians from the city took part in the meet. Speaking to a mediaperson, chief of medical unit and professor of medicine at Coimbatore Medical College (CMC), Doctor Usha said that measures have already been taken to detect Ebola patients at airports. Kathua, Nov 23 (ANI): The situation in Jammu town turned tense after son of a candidate of the regional People’s Democratic Party (PDP), opened fire at a former minister and Congress candidate in Kathua Constituency, Babu Singh. As per media reports, Singh planned to contest elections this year and party activists pasted campaign posters outside a shop which is soon going to open as a PDP office. To threaten and warn Singh, Nitin Sharma alias Sharu, son of PDP candidate Subash Sharma, forced his way into his house and opened three rounds of fire and fled from there. Police arrested Sharu from his residence and seized the revolver. Meanwhile, recalling the horrific incident, Singh’s nephew, Aman Jasrotia, who is also an eye-witness, demanded stern action into the matter. The six-year-old Manikyam, who measurers 61.5 centimeters from the hoof to the withers would replace the 69.07 centimeter Blaze, the current holder of the Guinness Book of World Records for the shortest cow from United States. Villagers clicked pictures of Manikyam with their mobile phones, who stood decked with garlands around her neck and posed with another Guinness record holder for shortest actor Ajay Kumar.
