Najma Heptulla urges PM to pass women's reservation bill

Chennai, Nov 23 (ANI): Minority Affairs Minister Najma Heptulla urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the government to pass the women's reservation bill. A bill that seeks to reserve 33 percent seats in parliament and provincial assemblies has been passed by the Rajya Sabha but is pending in the Lok Sabha due to lack of consensus among political parties. Heptulla promised to get nearly 600,000 acres of Waqf properties released from illegal occupants once parliament enacts a law. Nov 23, 2014

Nobel peace laureate Kailash Satyarthi urges UN to end child slavery

New Delhi, Nov 23 (ANI): Nobel peace laureate Kailash Satyarthi urged United Nations to prioritize abolition of child slavery while addressing a candle light march in New Delhi. Satyarthi, 60, whose non-government organisation (NGO) Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA) has been credited with freeing over 80,000 child labourers in India over 30 years, said it was unbelievable that slavery was still so prevalent. The thanksgiving festival shows gratitude to the almighty for a bountiful harvest with an offering of songs and dances. Audiences were enthralled by various folk and warrior dances. The main attraction was the Miss Kut 2014 beauty pageant contest. Participants from different communities, dressed in their best ethnic attires, walked the ramp. Badaun, Nov 22 (ANI): One woman died during a stampede at an event held in Badaun district in Uttar Pradesh to mark Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's 75th birthday on Saturday. The stampede occurred when Samajwadi Party MP Dharmendra Yadav was distributing blankets among the locals on the occasion of his party chief's birthday. The incident took place when Samajwadi Party leader Dharmendra Yadav was distributing free blankets to the people. BJP's UP unit President Laxmikant Bajpai said that if the resources are less then this kind of incident occurs. Goa, Nov 22 (ANI): Scores of devotees converged in coastal state of Goa on Saturday to witness 17th exposition of St Francis Xavier relics. The last exposition was held in 2004. The XVII solemn exposition of the sacred relics will go on till January 04, 2015. The 44-day long exposition of St Francis Xavier, fondly referred to as 'Goencho Saib', began on Saturday with an inaugural ceremony and a procession to shift the relics from the Basilica of Bom Jesus to the Se Cathedral for public veneration. Bishop of Mangalore Aloysius D’souza, who is the main celebrant at the solemn Pontifical Mass addressed the gathering, who came from daily prayers. New Delhi, Nov 22 (ANI): Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari on Saturday anointed his son Shaban Bukhari as Naib Imam at the Jama Masjid. Over 100 religious leaders from India and abroad attended the ceremony. The 19-year old Shaban Bukhari is pursuing his bachelors in social work at Amity University. The post of Naib Imam puts him in the line to become the Shahi Imam of the Jama Masjid. The Delhi High Court had earlier stated that anointment of Shaban Bukhari as successor to Shahi Imam has no legal sanctity; however, it had refused to stay the anointment ceremony. Nov 22, 2014
