Team India departs for Australia to play four-test match series

Mumbai, Nov 22 (ANI): The 19-member Indian cricket team departed from Mumbai to play the upcoming Australia tour commencing from December 04 to January 06. Brisbane hosts the first of the four-test match series in which Virat Kohli will lead team India. Skipper and captain of Indian cricket team Mahendra Singh Dhoni, however, will take command of the team in the subsequent match which is scheduled for December 12 in Adelaide. In his absence, Naman Ojha and Wriddhiman Saha have been roped in as keepers.

SP Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav thanks supporters for birthday wishes

Rampur, Nov 22 (ANI): Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's 75th birthday was celebrated amidst much fanfare and joy in Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh. Yadav cut a lavish cake in the presence of the party workers and also present at the event were senior party leader Azam Khan and state Chief Minister and his on Akhilesh Yadav. The sky was lit with fireworks as party workers rejoiced at the occasion. Yadav also thanked people for all the wishes. Earlier, the SP Chief also rode an imported Victorian- style 'buggy' in a rally. Thousands of supporters accompanied the 'buggy' carrying Mulayam Singh, Akhilesh Yadav besides Khan, as it proceeded towards the venue, Jauhar University.

Maoist attack in Bastar: Seven CRPF personnel sustain injuries

Bastar, Nov 22 (ANI): Seven CRPF personnel sustained injuries in a Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh. Police said that a group of heavily-armed red rebels ambushed security personnel's team in Bastar district. He added that two paramilitary personnel are in critical condition. Maoists, also known as Naxals, have killed police and politicians, and targeted government buildings and railway tracks in an insurgency that has killed thousands since 1960s.

Police arrest prime accused in kidnapping bid of Aurobindo Pharma's boss

Hyderabad, Nov 22 (ANI): Police arrested the prime accused in the shooting and kidnapping bid of generic drugmaker Aurobindo Pharma's vice president K Nityananda Reddy. Hyderabad Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy said that accused main motive was to extort money using fire arm. Aurobindo Pharma director and vice chairman K Nityananda Reddy was attacked by an unidentified man in the posh Banjara Hills area of Hyderabad on November 18. The accused has been identified as Obulesu, who joined as a constable in 1998. Obulesu armed with an AK-47 tried to kidnap Reddy from his car.

Former Pak Foreign Minister says both countries were close to resolve Kashmir issue

New Delhi, Nov 22 (ANI): Former Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri has said that New Delhi and Islamabad were very close to framework an agreement on the Kashmir issue during previous Congress-led regime in 2008. Kasuri is in Delhi to participate in Track-II dialogue that also involves Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar. Kasuri said that 80-90 percent of the issue was resolved through back channel during Manmohan Singh government. Kasuri added that Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz is in favour of peace process between the two nuclear armed neighbours.

Pakistan arrests 61 Indian fishermen

Karachi, Nov 22 (ANI): Pakistan maritime authorities arrested sixty one Indian fishermen and took into custody their eleven boats for illegal fishing in the country's territorial waters. The fishermen, who were arrested on November 20, had been handed over to Docks Police Station in Karachi for necessary legal action. The arrested fishermen have been charged under Foreign Act and Fisheries Act. Fishermen from both the countries frequently stray into each other territory and end up spending years in their jails.

President Obama accepts PM Modi's invite to be chief guest at Republic Day

New Delhi, Nov 22 (ANI): US president Barack Obama has accepted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's invitation to be the chief guest at Republic Day celebrations in January. Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Syed Akbaruddin said that a confirmation was received through diplomatic channel about Obama's visit to the country. Obama was invited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will be the first U.S. president to attend a Republic Day celebration, which marks the enactment of India's constitution on January 26, 1950. The White House said Obama will meet with Modi and other Indian officials to strengthen and expand the US-India relationship.

BJP spreading communal poison in poll-bound Kashmir: Congress

Ramban, Nov 22 (ANI): Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, on Friday alleged that ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was spreading communal poison for electoral gains in poll-bound Jammu and Kashmir. Azad said that centuries-old communal harmony in the valley was under severe threat. Azad while addressing an election rally in Ramban town added that playing with people's emotions would be harmful for the country in the long run. The five-phase polls in Jammu and Kashmir will begin on November 25 and will end on December 20. The results would be announced on December 23.

J and K polls: Kashmiris expecting good governance and employment

Jammu and Kashmir, Nov 22 (ANI): People of Jammu and Kashmir hoped for good governance and redressal of issues from state government in upcoming assembly polls. The five-phase polls in Jammu and Kashmir will begin on November 25 and will end on December 20. The results would be announced on December 23. Various political parties are holding rallies in the state in a bid to garner votes Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chief Mehbooba Mufti also addressed rallies and met people in Bandipora district in a bid to gather support. Mufti said that valley needs a government that can improve the overall condition of the state with water, power supply, employment, good roads and hospitals, which her party promised to deliver. The district also saw Congress leader Raj Babbar campaigning for his party. Meanwhile, incumbent chief minister Omar Abdullah also drew huge crowds to his rally in Baramullah district.
