Bangladesh's Ganajagaran Mancha hails death sentence of war criminal

Dhaka, Sep 21 (ANI): Bangladesh's Ganajagaran Mancha has hailed the verdict of the Supreme Court sentencing a Jamaat leader Abdul Quader Mollah to death for war crimes, overturning a life sentence imposed by a tribunal. Bangladesh Journalist, Shahriar Kabir, said that the verdict was the victory of the victims of the war. The war crimes tribunal back in February found Mollah, assistant secretary general of the outlawed Jamaat-e-Islami party, guilty of murder, rape and torture during the 1971 war of independence from Pakistan. The life sentence imposed at the time triggered protests by people hoping he would get the death penalty. In response, parliament amended a law to allow the state to appeal against any verdict or sentence passed by the tribunal.

Muzaffarnagar riots: BJP MLA Suresh Rana sent to 14-day judicial custody

Muzaffarnagar, Sep 21 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Thana Bhavan, Suresh Rana has been sent to 14-day judicial custody on Saturday. Rana, accused of inciting communal violence through inflammatory speeches in Muzaffarnagar, was arrested by the UP police on Friday. The Uttar Pradesh police also arrested BJP MLA Sangeet Som and BSP MLA Noor Salim Rana on Saturday over similar charges.

Shopian Killings: Kashmir observes shutdown in protest against human rights violations

Srinagar, Sep 21 (ANI): Residents of Kashmir observed shutdown on Saturday in protest against the recent incidents of violence in the Shopian district and repeated human rights violations, which have been taking place in the province. Muzaffarnagar: Accused from any party will be punished harshly, probe is fair, says SP

Baba Ramdev detained for 6 hours at Heathrow Airport

New Delhi, Sep 21 (ANI): Yoga guru Baba Ramdev was detained and questioned at Heathrow Airport for over six hours on Friday by British customs officials. The reason for his detention at the airport is not clear yet. Ramdev___s Spokesperson S K Tijarawala stated that the yoga guru was harassed without any reason. Police in Jharkhand recover huge cache of arms of Maoists

Jharkhand, Sep 21 (ANI): After a brief exchange of fire, the police in Jharkhand has managed to recover cache of arms including rifles, bullets, and essential belongings of the Maoists. Superintendent of Police (SSP) Aseem Vikrant Minj stated a gun battle with the rebels had taken place, prior to the recovery. The rebels, also known as Naxals, have fought for decades in a wide swathe of central and eastern India, including many resource-rich regions where tensions run high between poor farmers and industrial developers.
