Jammu, Sep 20 (ANI): As the Indian Army requested the Defence Ministry to order a high-level probe into the functioning of a top secret intelligence unit set up by General VK Singh, National Conference leader Mustafa Kamal on Friday said that the former army chief's action was an attack on the democratic credentials of the country. Kamal also said that Singh's mindset was communal and that he may have caused more harm to Jammu and Kashmir during his tenure as the Army Chief.

Action against VK Singh not political vendetta: Rashid Alvi

New Delhi, Sept 20 (ANI): Congress leader Rashid Alvi on Friday quashed allegations that the enquiry ordered against former army chief General V K Singh was part of a political vendetta. Media reports has claimed that General V K Singh set up a special unit in the army, which tried to topple the Jammu and Kashmir Government. The report claims that a secret Board of Officers inquiry has recommended that the CBI look into the matter. Media report also claims that the unit set up by General V K Singh called the Technical Services Division (TSD), a part of Military Intelligence, tried to block General Bikram Singh's promotion.

Rasheed Masood found guilty in MBBS seat allocation case

New Delhi, Sept 20 (ANI): A Special CBI court has held Rajya Sabha member Rasheed Masood guilty in a case of corruption and other offences. Masood, Minister of Health in the VP Singh government between 1990 and 1991, was held guilty of fraudulently nominating undeserving candidates to MBBS seats allotted to Tripura in medical colleges across the country from the central pool. Masood's conviction is the first case after the July 10 Supreme Court judgment that struck down sub-section 4 of Section 8 of Representation of the People, RP Act, under which incumbent MPs and MLAs can avoid disqualification till pendency of the appeal against conviction in a higher court.

Maoists kill one policeman of patrolling party in Bihar

Jamui, Sept 20 (ANI): Maoists killed one policeman of a patrolling party, which was on its way to probe the attack by the rebels on an under construction paramilitary force camp in Bihar. The Additional Superintendent of Police, Shafiul Haque, said that the two injured who were admitted to the hospital were out of danger. Hundreds of people lose their life in the violence, perpetrated by the rebels as well as security forces in counter insurgency operations.

Victorious Indian wrestling team returns to New Delhi

New Delhi, Sept 20 (ANI): Members of India's Wrestling team, who made the country proud by winning two medals at the World Wrestling championships, returned to their nation on Friday. Buoyed by wrestling's re-inclusion in the 2020 Olympic Games, a 22-member strong Indian team of grapplers scripted another success story at the week-long World Wrestling championships. It is first time that India has won two medals in the men's events at the World Championships level. Tata group plans new air carrier in alliance with Singapore Airlines

New Delhi, Sep 20 (ANI): Singapore Airlines Ltd and Tata group, owner of the Jaguar and Land Rover brands, have entered into a pact to set up a new full-service airline in India and also have sought approval for this tie-up to function from New Delhi. India___s Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh clarified this while interacting with the media persons in the national capital. Tata Sons said it will own 51 percent of the carrier and Singapore Airlines will own the remainder. On its part, Singapore Airlines said the initial outlay of $100 million would be funded by the two sides in proportion to their ownership.
