Six Maoists surrender in Odisha

Malkangiri, Sep 24 (ANI): Six Maoists have quit their camp and surrendered before the police in Malkangiri district of Odisha, the Odisha Police has informed. Giving details about the rebels, superintendent of police Akhileswar Singh, said that these Maoists were involved in several attacks. These six men were collecting information and providing logistic support to the Maoists in Chitrakonda region of the district. Reportedly, Maoists are operative in at least 15 districts of Odisha. Singh added that the surrendered Maoists would be provided with necessary assistance under the state rehabilitation policy. The rebels, also known as Naxals, have fought for decades in a wide swathe of central and eastern India, including many resource-rich regions where tensions run high between poor farmers and industrial developers.

Serena Williams retains top position in WTA rankings

New Delhi, Sep 24 (ANI): American tennis player Serena Williams continued to lead the way in the latest WTA rankings with 12260 points for a big advantage over Victoria Azarenka. According to Sport24, Azarenka has 9505 points followed by Russian player Maria Sharapova's 7866.
