Dhaka, Nov 12 (ANI): A clash of ideologies has plunged Bangladesh into a cycle of violence as the two main political parties - ruling Awami League led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Bangladesh National Party (BNP) headed by Begum Khaleda Zia are exploiting the tension between secularists and Islamists ahead of elections. A lawyer and secretary-general of 'The Bangladesh United Council for Hindus, Buddhists and Christians,' Rana Dasgupta drew attention towards the ideological differences between the two feuding parties. Police arrest Indian wrestler in alleged drug racket

Patiala, Nov 12 (ANI): The Punjab police arrested top award winning Indian wrestler, Jagdish Bhola, an alleged mastermind behind an international drug racket from Haryana. Jagdish Bhola was on the run after his residence was raided by the police and drugs worth Rs 100 crore were recovered. The team was tracking the accused since March this year. According to the SSP, drugs worth Rs 700 crore had earlier been seized which were being smuggled to countries like Canada, America, Europe and Australia. Registration of FIR in cognizable offences mandatory: SC

New Delhi, Nov 12 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled that registration of First Information report (FIR) in cognizable offences is mandatory. A five-judge Bench, headed by Chief Justice P. Sathasivam, clarified that no preliminary inquiry by a police official is permissible as a condition for registering FIR in cognizable offences. The bench said that police officials cannot avoid registration of FIR and action must be taken against them for not lodging FIR in cognizable offences. The apex court further said that preliminary investigation must be completed within seven days. The ruling came on a petition seeking clarity on the process of police investigations. Nov 12, 2013
