It Happens : Devotees throng ghost fair to be exorcised of evil spirits

Malajpur, Jan 9 (ANI): Thousands of devotees thronged a village in Madhya Pradesh for annual ghost fair. People from various states flocked Malajpur village, 300 kilometres from Bhopal city, to free themselves from evil spirits. The month-long fair begins on the tenth month according to the Hindu calendar. People, apparently, possessed by evil spirits are taken to Guru Deoji Maharaj temple where the priests and sorcerers perform various rituals. During the fair, devotees who are believed to be possessed by evil spirits dance in a state of trance. It is said that besides obviation from evil spirits, the devout visitors believe that all their wishes come true after praying at the temple. Jan 9, 2015

It Happens : Camel fest in Rajasthan enthralls tourists

Bikaner, Jan 9 (ANI): Camel race in shimmering sand dunes of Rajasthan enthralled Indian and foreign tourists at the International Camel Festival. Camels, which are also known as the ship of the desert due to their ability to store water for several days, mesmerised the onlookers as they competed with each other with great vigour. The tourists, who arrived in Bikaner district of Rajasthan from western countries like Australia, Germany, Canada and England, were thrilled as they watched the race keenly and enjoyed every moment of it. Apart from camel race, camel dance, camel decoration competitions and camel wrestling, and several village sport events were also organised at the festival. A tourist from Germany, Gehash said he was delighted to witness the camel race. The tourists were fascinated as they saw beautifully decorated camels dance to traditional tunes at the festival, jointly organised by Rajasthan Tourism and Bikaner district administration. A tourist from Canada, Christine said that the camel race would be etched in her memories. Tourists hailed the warm and traditional reception accorded to them. They were amazed by the exotic ethnic ornaments and costumes adorned by Rajasthani women. Jan 9, 2015

New Delhi, Jan 09 (ANI): Medical Superintendent of RML Hospital, Dr HK Kar on Friday said that three new cases of swine flu have been reported in Delhi. He said that the hospital admitted 12 suspected cases in which 3 cases have come positive. He further said that among the three, two are fine and one in critical condition passed away. Kar said that there is no need to panic about the situation as Swine Flu is influenza and the death rate is very low in this. Lakhvi granted bail in kidnapping case but likely to remain in custody under MPO

Islamabad, Jan 09 (ANI): The alleged mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi has been granted bail by Islamabad's lower court in the six year old kidnapping case against surety bonds worth 2,00,000 rupees but he is unlikely to be released as he was detained in Adiala Jail under Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) for a month. However, Lakhvi may be released after completion of the time period for his detention at Adiala jail. According to media reports, Lakhvi's counsel argued at the civil court of Mian Azhar Nadeem that his client was wrongly booked in the kidnapping case. Lakhvi's counsel argued that the kidnapping case against Lakhvi was registered under pressure from India after the Anti-Terrorism Court granted him bail. Jan 9, 2015

SC says no trial against Sunil Mittal, Ravikant Ruia in 2G spectrum case

New Delhi, Jan 09 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Friday quashed ongoing trials against Sunil Bharti Mittal, the chairman and managing director of Bharti Cellular Ltd, and Ravi Ruia, the promoter of Essar Group, in a case of allocation of additional spectrum. The court quashed the CBI special court's order making the two top telecom executives accused in the case. The industrialists had been summoned as accused by a special CBI court hearing the case involving the allocation of additional second 2G spectrum in 2002. Their names had not figured in the charge sheet submitted by the CBI, which was handling the case. Both Mittal and Ruia had approached the Supreme Court, challenging the order. The case relates to alleged irregularities in allocation of additional spectrum - 10 Mhz instead of 6.2 Mhz - during the NDA rule. Jan 9, 2015
