Chicago: 5 killed in 10 shootings in 12 hours

Five people were killed and 11 others injured in over 10 shootings within 12 hours on 25 January in Chicago. Those shot were aged from 16 to 56, with several survivors in critical condition at hospital. The burst of shootings came after no one had been reported shot in the city for 33 hours; through most of the day on 24 January in to the following day. In the past year, Chicago has implemented several measures to cope with shooting crimes, including deploying more police officers to patrol and capture illegal guns. Jan 27, 2016

Birds-eye view: See the world from the eyes of an eagle-mounted camera

Video from a wildlife documentary production company captures the world as seen through the eyes of an eagle in flight. The video from Terra Mater Film Studios, was created by mounting a camera on an eagle, named Alexander the Great, as it flew through Kulm, Austria, the company said. The flight occurred during the Ski Flying World Championships held between 14-16 January, and the ramps and pavilions of the event can be seen below the bird before it lands. Jan 27, 2016

Apple support still strong in China despite revenue drop

Apple forecast its first revenue drop in 13 years on 27 January and reported the slowest-ever increase in iPhone shipments as the critical Chinese market showed signs of cooling down. Despite this, the company reported revenue of $18.37bn (£12.83, €16.91) from Greater China, accounting for 24.2% of total revenue. Revenue from the region nearly doubled in the fourth quarter. Avneesh Saxena, Vice President of DCI Asia/Pacific, said Apple had performed well in the current economic state, but that the company will have to continue to be innovative if they want to keep their edge. Brazil: Watch 40-inmate prison break after dramatic explosion

Dramatic footage has emerged showing the moment in which at least 40 inmates broke free from a Brazilian jail, following an explosion through an external wall on 23 January. The video, which was circulated by the Folha de Pernambuco newspaper, shows a man entering the compound shortly before an explosion, which sends inmates running and tumbling over the smoking wall, before many turn back. Sri Lanka: Over 350 confiscated elephant tusks destroyed

Sri Lanka has destroyed 359 elephant tusks on 26 January, after paying tribute with a Buddhist ceremony for the wild animals who lost their lives for them. Brazil: Zika virus could be linked to 4,000 microcephaly cases

The mosquito-borne Zika virus could be linked to 4,000 suspected cases of microcephaly in Brazil including 49 deaths, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on 26 January. Brazil has reported 3,893 suspected cases of microcephaly, the WHO said on 22 January, over 30 times more than in any year since 2010 and equivalent to 1-2 percent of all new-borns in the state of Pernambuco, one of the worst-hit areas.
