A British Antarctic Survey team of scientists is leaving for the ice in East Antarctica to try to find the oldest ice on Earth. They will drill a core of ice three kilometres deep at two different sites. The ice contains ancient air bubbles that were trapped 1.5million years ago. Jesse Hughes, the frontman of The Eagles of Death Metal band, was refused entry to the Bataclan music hall. According to the venue’s manager, Jules Frutos, Hughes and his manager are not welcome.The Eagles of Death Metal were playing on the night Islamist terrorists attacked the Bataclan, killing 89.Hughes had said some of the venue’s security guards had not showed up on the night of the Paris terror attacks, accusing them to be accomplices of the terrorists. Iraqi soldiers are said to have recaptured Nimrud. The site of an ancient Assyrian city was taken over by Islamic State two years ago.Footage released by IS showed militants destroying 3,000-year-old relics and statues.The Iraqi government reported that Nimrud was bulldozed by IS last year.Nimrud lies about 20 miles south of Mosul, where Iraqi soldiers are fighting the IS.
