1,100 migrants attempt to storm border into Spains enclave of Ceuta

1,100 migrants attempted to storm a border fence between Morocco and the Spanish enclave Ceuta.Dozens made it up the 6-metre high barbed wire fence in the early hours of the morning.They were lifted down by cranes and returned to Morocco, the Spanish government announced.Five Spanish and 50 Moroccan police officers were injured when the migrants clashed with authorities.Spain has been criticised by human right groups for returning migrants to Morocco without giving them the opportunity to claim asylum. New Year mass shooting at Istanbul nightclub leaves 39 dead and up to 70 injured

An attack on a nightclub in Istanbul has left at least 39 dead and around 70 injured. A sole gunman is said to have opened fire in the Reina nightclub at about 1:30am local time. The attacker escaped and is now being hunted by police. There were reportedly up to 700 people in the nightclub at the time of the attack. At least 15 of the victims are said to be foreigners. Lukasz Urban, the truck driver killed in the attack on a Berlin Christmas market, has been given a state funeral.Polish President Andrzej Duda attended the funeral in Urban’s hometown in north-western Poland.Urban had been a truck driver for 15 years, working for his cousins company. Truck drivers also held a vehicle procession to honour the driver who is said to have fought attacker Anis Amri, before being shot. Following the violent death of Greeces ambassador to Brazil, Kyriakos Amiridis a Rio de Janeiro police officer has confessed to strangling him, according to investigators.Officer Sergio Moreira had an affair with Amiridis’ Brazilian wife Françoise.Investigators believe the couple had planned to kill the ambassador together.Amiridis’ body was found in a burned out car in a violent Rio neighbourhood.
