India working to evacuate nationals from Libya as violence erupts: MEA

New Delhi, July 29 (ANI): As Libya caught up in a major violence after a second fuel tank caught fire amid heavy fighting at Tripoli airport between rival militias, India's MEA Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said that the country is working to evacuate Indian nationals from the country. He said that the 62 coordinators coordinating with Indian nationals have been set up already. The ministry is also providing them with air tickets to return to India, using funds from India. Akbaruddin also assured that Indians are safe till now. The battle for control of the airport erupted two weeks ago when Islamist-led militias, mainly from the western city of Misrata, tried to wrest control of the area from a rival militia from the town of Zintan. Legal eagles voice against the SC collegium for judges appointment

New Delhi, July 29 (ANI): Senior jurists on Tuesday voiced against the Supreme Court Collegium saying the system has no credibility and transparency. Former Law Minister Shanti Bhushan said that he is totally against the Collegium because a group of people cannot decide on the best person as a judge. He said that there should be a change in the system so that corrupt people don't get appointed. Former High Court Judge Justice (Retd) RS Sodhi also welcomed changes but advocated for the same not just in Delhi but throughout India. At least 12 pilgrims killed in road accident in Aurangabad

Aurangabad, July 29 (ANI): At least 12 pilgrims, five of them women, were killed and 22 others injured when a speeding container ran over them on the New Delhi-Kolkata National Highway in Bihar's Aurangabad district on Tuesday. The heavy vehicle lost control and ran over the devotees sleeping by the side of the road. After running over the victims, it hit a parked bus in which some other devotees were resting. The Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Bhim Kumar, said pilgrims were returning from Deoghar after offering the holy water. The injured have been admitted to Sadar Hospital with some of the seriously injured rushed to Magadh Medical College and Hospital in Gaya. Jul 29, 2014

New Delhi, July 29 (ANI): Law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad convened meeting of former judges and eminent jurists and sought their opinion on a panel that would appoint judges. Earlier, Prasad told parliament that the government was keen to set up a committee to appoint judges in wake of allegations of judicial corruption by a former Supreme Court Judge, Justice Markandey Katju. Kolkata, July 29 (ANI): CPI (M) leader Biman Bose hit out at West Bengal government over its inability to tackle Japanese Encephalitis. Almost 570 people in India have died after contracting encephalitis, commonly known as "brain fever", health authorities said on Friday, warning the death toll may rise with more people still at risk. In West Bengal, where at least 111 people have died from both strains, a senior health official said authorities were taking emergency steps to contain the outbreak. Lucknow, July 29 (ANI): The state government-led by Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pradesh agreed to demands of the family of the Mohanlalganj rape and murder victim and ordered a CBI probe in the same. Family of the woman began a fast unto death protest on Sunday demanding a CBI probe into the incident citing dissatisfaction with police report. The police had said that there were no traces of rape before murder and only one person was involved in the crime. SP leader Naresh Agarwal said they had written to CBI to conduct an inquiry. However, family of the victim, who said they will not end the hunger strike till all their demands were met, said that no government official has visited them to inform them about the development in the case.
