Fire in Connaught Place building, fire tenders rushed to spot

New Delhi, Aug 25 (ANI): A fire broke out on the first floor of Rama Building in Delhi's Connaught Place area on Monday. About 10-15 fire tenders reached the spot to douse the fire. At least 10 people killed in stampede at Kamtanath Pahad Temple in MP

Chitrakoot, Aug 25 (ANI): Ten pilgrims were killed and over 60 are believed to have suffered injuries in a stampede early on Monday at Kamtanath Pahad Temple, about 80 kms away from Satna district headquarters, on the Madhya Pradesh - Uttar Pradesh border. The stampede took place at about 6 am today, as devotees crowded Kamtanath temple in Chitrakoot for a festival called the Somvati Amavasya. The stampede occurred during 'Shayana Pradakshinam' which is done in a lying posture. District officials fear the number of dead and injured could rise and said five of those killed were women. Counting underway in Bihar for By-Polls

Chhapra, Aug 25 (ANI): Counting is underway in Bihar for the ten assembly seats that had gone to by-polls last week. The trends are showing a close contest with the BJP and RJD leading in five seats. BJP candidate Rampreet Paswan and Niranjan Ram is leading in the Rajnagar and Kaimur seat respectively. While RJD candidate Ajay Kumar has taken the lead in Samastipur seat. The RJD is ahead in Chhapra with party leader Randhir Singh leading. Remains of fallen soldiers of 1857 independence war immersed in river Ganges

Haridwar, Aug 25 (ANI): Grateful Indians paid tribute to the 282 fallen soldiers of the first war of independence, the 1857 Sepoy Mutiny, by immersing their mortal remains in the holy river Ganges in Haridwar city of Uttar Pradesh. The 157-year-old remains were discovered in Ajnala area of Amritsar city in northwestern Punjab recently and were immersed into the Ganges flowing through Kankhal area in Haridwar. Hindu religion spells out that a soul gains liberation only after the ashes of the dead body are immersed in the Ganges. The remains, which included the skulls and bones of the 282 fallen soldiers of the mutiny, had been dumped in a well (called the Black Well) by the British exactly 157 years ago. Aug 25, 2014

Meerut, Aug 25 (ANI): A former college teacher, Ajay Sharma, in Uttar Pradesh, dedicated his life as 'father' to 12 HIV positive boys he adopted. The Samaritan calls his care home 'Satyakam Care Home' which has become well known address in the city of Meerut. The children, between 7 and 17, all have one thing in common that they were born to parents with AIDS. Sharma says he decided to dedicate his life to these kids after he survived a brain hemorrhage in 2004. Sharma has received help in his effort. Jammu, Aug 25 (ANI): As the ceasefire violations by Pakistan continues along the Indo-Pak international border, villagers in Kashmir live under constant fear and shadow of death. Pakistan army continued to violate the ceasefire on the Indian border in the intervening night of August 24 and August 25 in the RS Pura area of Jammu district. Villagers in the bordering areas say that are moving out of the area due to constant threat to their lives. A villager in RS Pura sector sustained injury by midnight shelling from Pakistani troops and is admitted in a nearby hospital. Earlier on Sunday, two separate encounters at Keran sector and Kalaroos of the state killed four militants and two soldiers while three army men, including an officer, sustained injuries. Tripura, Aug 24 (ANI): A total of 36 trainees are undergoing two-week long training in bamboo art and skill development at Bamboo and Cane Development Institute (BCDI) in Tripura. Eleven artisans are from Ethiopia and 25 trainees are local tribals who are getting a chance to enhance their skills through exchange of ideas. The training program is being organized by the Development Commissioner Handicraft under Ministry of Textiles as a part of the African-Indian Forum for capacity building training programme. Tripura has the largest skill base of bamboo artisans producing a variety of products. The trainees learn to make bamboo baskets, furniture and other products. The 10th edition of _MyTVS Heritage Car Rally_ saw classic beauties from 1920s to 1960s participating at the event. The organiser of the event, VS Kylas, said close to 140 cars and 50 bikes turned out for the rally.
