Kiran Bedi on Visva-Bharati University ragging case

New Delhi, Aug 30 (ANI): Former IPS Officer Kiran Bedi on Saturday condemned the disturbing incident of ragging in the prestigious Visva-Bharati University located at Shantiniketan in West Bengal wherein a girl student was allegedly striped naked by male seniors. The girl has alleged that the students also took her photographs and threatened to circulate it if the incident was disclosed. Bedi said that educational institutions should take steps to remind new students about ragging and rules of the institutions. She also said that strict investigations should also take place and that such incidents shows failure of the institution. Aug 30, 2014

Historian Bipan Chandra dies at age of 86

New Delhi, Aug 30 (ANI): Prominent Indian author and historian Bipan Chandra died on Saturday morning in his sleep at the age of 86. Chandra was considered to be one of foremost scholars on India independence movement and was an authority on Mahatma Gandhi. According to family sources, he died around 6 AM on Saturday morning at his home in Gurgaon. He had not been keeping well over the last few months. Chandra taught at the University of Delhi and Jawaharlal Nehru University and was also associated with the University Grants Commission of New Delhi.
