New Delhi, Sep 08 (ANI): Political leaders on Monday react as BJP MLA Sangeet Singh Som has called for a Mahapanchayat in Uttar Pradesh to protest against Love Jihad. BJP leader Sambit Patra welcoming the MLA's step said that there is lawlessness in Uttar Pradesh and the BJP leaders are trying to solve the local problem in a local manner and creating awareness among the people against the same. Congress leader Manish Tewari said that such an act is very unfortunate and that the government of Uttar Pradesh needs to take action against such people and BJP needs to account for its MLAs. NCP leaders Majid Memon and Tariq Anwar condemning the act said that such hate speeches will only create differences among the people and that the BJP is only trying to play the vote bank politics in Uttar Pradesh. Jammu & Kashmir, Sep 08 (ANI): As water level in flood hit Jammu & Kashmir came down on Monday, the administration opened the Jammu-Pathankot national highway, which connects the region with the rest of the country. Meanwhile, rescue operations are in full swing as the death toll from serious flooding in Jammu and Kashmir climbed to more than 175, with homes, military bases and hospitals inundated in the region. Indian army personnel rescued residents stuck in floodwater in low lying areas in Rajouri district. About 22 air force helicopters and four aircraft were deployed to evacuate stranded people and to deliver relief. Maoists open fire on police patrol in Jharkhand

Latehar, Sep 08 (ANI): Maoists opened fire on a police patrol party in Jharkhand but nobody was injured, said a police officer. Acting on a tip-off, police laid a cordon to nab the militants but they managed to escape by taking cover of fire. Police officer, Deepak Kumar said Maoists had suffered losses during exchange of fire. Police recovered bullets and other materials from the spot. Flood alert in Andhra Pradesh, state CM takes stock of situation

Srikakulam, Sep 08 (ANI): Rising water levels triggered by heavy rains caused floods in Andhra Pradesh leaving nearly 300 people stranded. State Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday directed Ministers and officials to take up prompt rescue and relief measures wherever necessary. Gaurav Uppal, the District Magistrate of Srikakulam district that is badly hit, visited some of the flood-affected areas along with his team to monitor the situation. He also spoke to the affected residents to understand the state of affairs. Uppal said incessant rainfall in neighbouring Odisha on Saturday caused water levels to rise in the Vamsadhara River. The apex court passed the order midnight and stayed the execution for a week until a fresh review petition challenging his death penalty is heard. Flood waters inundate farmlands in border villages of Punjab

Gurdaspur, Sep 08 (ANI): Dozens of border villages and farmlands were inundated due to floodwaters in Gurdaspur district of Punjab, while 18 people including children have been rescued. These villages across river Ravi remained cut off following flooding of the Basanter Nullah near the Pakistan borders. The incessant rains in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab have created havoc when the river waters breached embankments on the Indian side and the flow of water increased sharply. Meanwhile, Indian army teams conducted rescue operations and saved 18 people who were stuck in the flooded areas. Evacuation is being carried out. Jina's soap brand is a symbol of women empowerment and enlightenment. Jina also has the expertise in recycling waste materials into productive and income generating items apart from making soaps. She wishes to open up a show room for her products and a training centre. Jina's soap making farm has been a source of earning for some other destitute poor women, like widows and those living with HIV/AIDS. They come to her house and together make soaps, and handicraft. A handful of tourists who visited the temple urged the concerned authorities to improve the infrastructure so that the historic temple attracts more tourists. Buddhist priests do not travel during monsoon and instead sit in one place to meditate, which is known as "varsavash" or the three month long period when monks remain in their monasteries and elders of the community fast and observe abstinence. According to local folklore, Lord Buddha visited this temple in Rajgir and spent his varsavash.
