Bangalore/ Chennai, Sep 28 (ANI): AIADMK supporters on Sunday came out on protest in Chennai city of Tamil Nadu against the Bangalore special court's decision to sentence state Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for 4-years of jail in disproportionate assets case. Supporters shouted slogans and demanded release of Jayalalithaa. Security has been tightened as party supporters protested outside AIADMK Headquarters in Chennai. Jayalalithaa is the first state chief minister to have been ousted from the post because of a wealth case. She has been convicted of obtaining assets worth almost Rs. 66 crores through dishonest means during her first tenure as chief minister from 1991 to 1996. Chennai comes to a halt after Jayalalithaa sentenced to 4 years of imprisonment

Chennai, Sep 28 (ANI): Chennai woke up to a silent morning on Sunday after a Bangalore special court held Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa guilty in the disproportionate assets case. Jayalalithaa is sentenced to 4 years of jail for obtaining assets worth almost Rs. 66 crores through dishonest means during her first tenure as chief minister from 1991 to 1996. Saturday, the day of the sentence, left Chennai bruised, battered and licking the wounds caused by nearly half a day of violence and picketing. A tight security is at place outside DMK Chief M Karunanidhi's residence in Chennai, a day after AIADMK supporters burnt his effigies in protest. All business establishments and offices are shut and city's transportation also came to a halt. Jayalalithaa has been disqualified from public office for at least 6 years which, combined with the jail sentence, means that she cannot contest polls for 10 years. New York, Sep 28 (ANI): Bangladeshi expatriates held a protest against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the United States. Karachi, Sep 28 (ANI): Pakistan maritime authorities arrested twenty nine Indian fishermen and took into custody their five boats for illegal fishing in the country's territorial waters, according to a police official. The arrested fishermen were handed over to police in the port city of Karachi for necessary legal action. According to maritime security agency, the fishermen were almost 10 kilometres inside Pakistan territorial waters when they were detained.
