Sushma Swaraj says abducted workers in Iraq alive

New Delhi, Nov 28 (ANI): External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Friday while speaking in the Rajya Sabha said that 39 abducted construction workers in Iraq were alive on the basis of information from six sources, thus contradicting eyewitness' account that they have been shot dead. Swaraj said the information was written and she had shared that information with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and other colleague. However, the foreign minister refused to divulge the identity of source, as it could hamper the rescue efforts, but admitted that government has no direct contact with the abductees. Swaraj said that eye-witness Harjeet was well and was in government's protective care. Nov 28, 2014

New Delhi, Nov 28 (ANI): Political leaders condemn apparent killing of Indians abducted by ISIS in June. A news channel claimed that out of 39 Indians kidnapped in Iraq, only one of them was still left alive. Government sources were quick to dismiss the claims saying their current information did not corroborate the claim. HC allows Delhi schools to decide on nursery admission guidelines

New Delhi, Nov 28 (ANI): Delhi High Court on Friday gave verdict on the Nursery admissions case and has allowed Delhi schools to decide on the guidelines of the admissions themselves. The court gave its final decision on the petition of the people seeking admission for their children. The court was hearing a batch of petitions filed by the parents against guidelines issued by Delhi's Lieutenant Governor on December 18, 2013 on the admissions. The court said that the LG's order is without the authority of law and against the fundamental rights of the school authority. Under the earlier system, out of a total 100 points, 70 were given if the child lives in the neighbourhood of the school, additional 20 were given if a sibling is studying there, five points more if either parent is an alumni and another five points if it is an inter-state transfer case. Security has been beefed up for Modi's rally in Kashmir's Poonch district, a day after militants attacked an army base in Arnia sector killing three security personnel and three civilians. Hundreds of security personnel in uniforms were seen standing holding automatic guns. Residents were excited about Modi's election rally. Jammu, Nov 28 (ANI): Search operation was tightened in Jammu and Kashmir to look for militant hideouts after gunmen wearing army uniforms attacked an army base near the border with Pakistan, leaving ten people dead in the worst militant violence in more than a year. On Friday morning, army personnel conducted thorough search operation in the villages in Jammu region. Several tanks, arms and ammunitions were also arranged by them in a bid to prevent any further untoward happenings. The Thursday's incident came as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif had a brief meeting at a summit of South Asian leaders in Nepal that clinched a deal to create a regional electricity grid. Four or five gunmen split into two groups upon arriving in the town of Arnia, about four km (3 miles) from the border, with one group attacking an army bunker and the other holed up in a house, a senior army officer had said. Maoists burn polling party tractors amid elections in Jharkhand

Latehar, Nov 28 (ANI): Maoists attacked security personnel in Latehar district of Jharkhand and burned down eight tractors belonging to polling parties. A battalion of India’s paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was returning back to its posts when Maoists opened fire. They were retaliated upon but no injuries were reported. The village head of Sarju, where the tractors were burnt, Phuldev Uraav said that he didn’t know of the incident till the next day. The Maoists retrieved important belongings from the tractors before proceeding to burn them in a field. Maoists had given a call to boycott state polls and asked people to refrain from voting despite which voters came out in high numbers to practice their franchise. Vowing to fight for the poor who were left homeless after Tuesday's demolition drive, Rahul said that if they want to use the bulldozer again, it will be his body they will have to cross first. The slum dwellers chanted slogans in support of the Congress vice-president as he interacted with some of them. Gandhi’s visit to the Rangpuri Pahari slum comes at a time when Delhi is gearing up for the assembly polls. CRPF Director General says state govt want Maoism to continue

New Delhi, Nov 28 (ANI): Director General (DG) of paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Dilip Trivedi accused some state governments of helping Maoism to continue for their selfish reasons while addressing a news conference in New Delhi. Trivedi was addressing mediapersons and other CRPF officers before ending his term as DG on November 30. Maoists, also known as Naxals, have killed police and politicians, and targeted government buildings and railway tracks in an insurgency that has killed thousands since 1960s. Meanwhile, Trivedi also said various committees and studies conducted by the government for welfare of forces was a waste of public money. Security beefed up in Assam ahead of PM's visit for DGPs conference

Guwahati, Nov 28 (ANI): Security stepped up ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting with the police chiefs in Assam. Modi and Home Affairs Minister Rajnath Singh will address the two-day meet, which begins on Saturday, and being held in Assam for the first time. Directors general of police (DGPs) and inspectors general of police (IGPs) from the states and union territories, chief ministers of the northeastern states, officials from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and paramilitary forces will take part in it. Director General of Police Khagen Sarma said all precautionary measures are being taken to prevent any untoward incident. India's northeast consists of eight states which are beset with militancy and insurgency. Raipur, Nov 28 (ANI): Hundreds of protesters took to streets in Raipur city of Chhattisgarh demanding the ruling BJP government in the state to step down immediately and own responsibility of deaths of the 10 women, who went through mass sterilization procedure earlier this month. The protesters belonging to the Congress Party said if their demands were not met with immediate effect, they would march to New Delhi and meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Ten women died and 14 were in a serious condition after botched operations at a government mass sterilization "camp" in Bilaspur district.
