Dozens dead, over 100 wounded in Nigeria mosque attack

Kano, Nov 29 (ANI): Three bombs exploded and gunmen opened fire on the Muslim faithful gathered for prayers at the main Mosque in north Nigeria's biggest city Kano. Media reports say that dozens have been killed and more than one hundred people have been hurt by the explosions. The mosque is next to the palace of the emir of Kano, the second highest Islamic authority in Africa's most populous country. But security reports given so far said Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi is safe, and he wasn't in the mosque at the time of the incident. The police blocked the accident area right after they arrived at the bomb site, and started the rescue right away. No organizations or persons have announced to create the incident, but recent attacks in Nigeria are blamed on Boko Haram for revenge. Nov 29, 2014

Varanasi to soon turn into a smart city

Varanasi, Nov 29 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi's parliamentary constituency Varanasi is drawing close to turn into a smart city, as urban development ministry laid out the plan of the ambitious project. Modi, who was elected in May to represent the 3,000-year-old riverside city of Varanasi, has taken personal responsibility to upgrade the holy city into India's one of the first smart cities. The organizers and businessmen who will be the part of the project were present at the 'seminar on intelligent cities'. Urban Development ministry Secretary, Shankar Aggarwal interacted with the people and officials involved with the ambitious project. Aggarwal said a smart city may have diverse significance for different groups belonging to various fields. Bird flu symptoms not related to poultry products consumption: Indian Medical Association

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 29 (ANI): Indian Medical Association in Kerala in association with National Rural Health Mission conducted awareness camp on bird flu virus and said that symptoms are not related to poultry products consumption. Doctors and health officials ate chicken and eggs in front of people in a bid to make them understand that consuming poultry products was not related to the outbreak of bird flu virus. A bird flu virus was found in India, H5N1 strain, which can be transmitted to humans, the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) had said on Thursday. However, the organization said it was not an alarming situation, as India was fully prepared to deal with such a crisis because it had faced the outbreak of the virus in the past. However, no human case has been reported since 2003. President of Indian Medical Association of Kerala, Doctor Sreejith N Kumar said that people do not need to get panicked as there are low chances of spreading the virus from birds to human. District Programme Manager of National Rural Health Mission, Doctor B. Unnikrishnan said that volunteers and workers were given proper instructions to report the disease symptoms if found any during the survey. Nov 29, 2014

Amritsar, Nov 29 (ANI): A 41-member delegation of artistes, singers and musicians from Pakistan, arrived in Amritsar to participate in a joint cultural festival 'Saanjh'. The main objective of the festival is to foster strong bond of friendship between the two nuclear armed neighbours through shared cultural folklore, music and poetry. The colourful rainbow of artists came together under the umbrella of Amritsar-Lahore peace festival, which is being celebrated since twelve years, spreading the message of peace and harmony. Leading Sufi Musician of Pakistan, Saeen Zahur Ahmad said that people across borders should bond with each other, spreading the message of love and brotherhood. Both countries have also introduced a project named Aman Ki Asha', a peace initiative between India and Pakistan. Tripura, Nov 29 (ANI): The Chakma tribe is one of the nineteen tribes of Tripura that can be identified by their unique dress patterns. Traditionally, the women folk of the community used to make their own clothes at home using loin loom. However, weaving on loin loom and the traditional art is gradually losing ground. Smriti Rekha Chakma, a resident of 79 Tilla in West Tripura is running a training centre in her backyard to teach the indigenous methods of making clothes using loin loom. Smriti makes an attempt to promote ethnic Chakma textiles that makes use of natural dyes, among the new generation. Smriti was awarded with the National Award for Excellence in shawl weaving in 2000 and four of her students have also received similar awards. Her products have been getting a good response, especially outside the state, due to the unique patterns and designs. A number of people across age groups come to her to learn the art. Decency Chakma, a student of textile designing at the National Institute of Designing, Hyderabad is one of the few trainees learning the intrinsic Chakma designs. Nov 29, 2014

36 Indian prisoners released from Malir jail in Pakistan

Karachi, Nov 28 (ANI): Pakistan authorities on Friday released 36 Indian prisoners, 35 of them fishermen, as a "goodwill gesture". The Indian prisoners were freed from Malir jail in the port city of Karachi. All the released inmates were sent to Lahore by bus. They will be handed over to Indian authorities at the Wagah border on Saturday (November), officials said. The fishermen had been arrested for illegal fishing in Pakistani waters. One prisoner was arrested for illegally crossing the border. Pakistan's biggest "Edhi charity" distributed gifts and cash among prisoners. Each prisoner was handed Rupees ten thousand for expenses on the way. Freed Indian prisoners said that they were happy at their release. Nov 28, 2014
