Popular Chinese smartphone maker, Xiaomi released a teaser image of new Redmi series handset on Wednesday, 31 December.
Xiaomi confirmed the news on the official micro-blogging site Wiebo, that the company will unveil new Redmi series smartphone on 4 January.
Though there is no mention of the device category (phone or phablet), many opine that it is most likely to be the successor of the Xiaomi's 2014 mid-range phone Redmi 1S, which was recently spotted at the benchmarking site and the Tenna, a Chinese telecommunication agency database.

As per reports, it is expected to sport 4.7-inch HD IPS screen and run on the Android 4.4.4 KitKat with custom MIUI powered by the Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor with Adreno 306 graphics engine. It also said to house 8mp main camera and a 2mp snapper on the front.

In a related development, Xiaomi is also slated to launch flagship Mi5 smartphone and a dual-edge curved display based handset Xiaomi Arch soon.
