UP govt admits death of 34 children in Muzaffarnagar relief camps, draws protest

Lucknow/ Muzaffarnagar/ Varanasi, Dec 27 (ANI): Amid a raging controversy over numbar of deaths in Muzaffarnagar relief camps, Uttar Pradesh government has admitted that 34 children below the age of 15 died in the camps for the riot-hit victims. Forty-five people have died in the prosperous sugarcane district of Muzaffarnagar and surrounding areas since clashes erupted between Muslims and majority Hindu Jats. This was concluded in a report by a fact-finding committee of the state government. Earlier, Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav had made a remark where he stated that those living in the relief camps are not riot victims, but conspirators and political activists planted by Congress party and the BJP. Jalpaiguri, Dec 27 (ANI): At least five people were killed and several others injured when a bomb tied to a bicycle exploded in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal. Superintendent of police, Amit P Jawalgi said that he was expecting such an incident because Martyrs Day was being celebrated in the region. Jawalgi confirmed that nine people were injured in the blast on Thursday. The blast occurred at around 7 pm in Bajrapara area and the injured were admitted to the Jalpaiguri District Hospital.
