Kiran Walia files complaint against Kejriwal demanding his nomination to be cancelled, AAP refutes c

New Delhi, Jan 22 (ANI): Congress leader Kiran Walia on Thursday filed complaint against AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal demanding his nomination to be cancelled. Walia said that Kejriwal did not mention about a FIR filed against him under the court's order and therefore he failed to disclose facts asked during filing nomination papers. Further, she said that Kejriwal did not had a rent agreement to show that he is a resident of BK Dutt society which he mentioned in his papers. Walia also said that she will take up the case to the High Court. Meanwhile, Kejriwal's lawyer said that the claims are baseless and that the nomination has been accepted. Jan 22, 2015

Snowfall blocks strategic highway in Kashmir valley

Udhampur, Jan 22 (ANI): Fresh spell of snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir threw life out of gear on Thursday, leading to the closure of strategic Srinagar-Jammu National Highway. According to the state authorities, over 300-kilometre-long highway has been closed for all types of vehicular traffic since early Thursday morning because of snowfall at some places. The suspension has stranded hundreds of vehicles at various points of the highway. The highway shall remain closed for traffic for uncertain period of time. In order to know the latest status of the highway the travellers would have to contact the control rooms at northern cities of Srinagar and Jammu. Jan 22, 2015

New Delhi, Jan 22 (ANI): Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin while giving details of the itinerary of the US President Barack Obama visit to India in a press conference on Thursday, said that Obama's visit is being seen as strengthening of ties across the full spectrum of India-US relationship. Akbaruddin said that US is India's key interlocutor in adjustments to global security architecture and that India sees vast potential in growth of its relations with the US. While pouring out the details of the itinerary of the US President's three-day visit to India, Akbaruddin added that Obama will visit Taj Mahal on 27 January before departing for US. New Delhi, Jan 22 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Thursday asked the BCCI to conduct fresh elections within 6 weeks and also refrained former BCCI President N Srinivasan from contesting. While asking Srinivasan to choose between Chennai Super Kings and BCCI chief's post, the Supreme Court held guilty his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan and Raj Kundra for betting in the IPL scam. The SC has barred Srinivasan from contesting elections till such time he had commercial interest in cricket. PM Modi launches 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' campaign

Panipat, Jan 22 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched the 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' campaign for the survival, protection and education of the girl child. The campaign aims to address the issue of declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR) through a mass campaign across the country targeted at changing societal mindsets and creating awareness about the criticality of the issue. It will have focused intervention and multi-sectoral action in 100 districts with low Child Sex Ratio. It will be a major inter-ministerial initiative of the Government of India bringing together Ministries, institutions and civil societies in a rational effort to reverse the declining sex ratio. The Union Ministry of Women and Child Development will be nodal ministry and will be assisted by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Human Resource Development and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in this endeavour.
