Stray dogs to be sterilised in Raipur

Raipur, Feb 03 (ANI): Residents of Raipur in Chhattisgarh state are likely to breathe a sigh of relief as city municipal body began a sterilisation drive to put an end to the menace of stray dogs. The drive aims to sterilise around 2000 stray dogs in the region. It was undertaken after a few people fell prey to dog bites. City Mayor, Pramod Dubey, is hopeful that the efforts taken by the municipal body would bring some relief to locals. Meanwhile, veterinary doctor said that when the dogs are ravenous, they have tendency to bite and they prey on humans. Government district veterinary hospital has been asked to sterilise around 26-30 dogs a day. Dogs would be vaccinated against rabies after being operated upon. Feb 3, 2015

AAP rubbishes BJP's allegations on black money

New Delhi, Feb 03 (ANI): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) hit back at ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday after it alleged that the former accepted black money for funding its election expenses for Delhi polls. Taking a jibe at the BJP, AAP leader Ashutosh said that it was "frustrated" seeing the party taking an edge in opinion polls. BJP leader Nalin Kohli accused Kejriwal of converting black money into white. Meanwhile, Congress leader Manish Tewari said that AAP should reveal from where such a huge amount of money came. The BJP had alleged on Monday that shell companies were created to transfer rupees 20 million to AAP on April 05, 2014, while official records pointed that these companies didn't make any profit and had common directors. Devotees take holy dip in Varanasi to mark 'Magh Purnima'

Varanasi, Feb 03 (ANI): Thousands of devotees took a dip at 'Sangam', the confluence of river Ganges, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati, in the holy city of Varanasi of Uttar Pradesh on the auspicious occasion of full moon day or Magh Purnima on Tuesday. Magh Purnima marks the last day of the month of Magh (January-February) in the Hindu calendar. Devout Hindus stated gathering at the river bank from early in the morning to perform religious rituals. They queued up before priests who had erected makeshift altars on the riverbanks to perform the rituals and offer prayers. Apart from taking a dip in the holy waters, devotees also donate food and clothes on this day. A devotee, Hiranand Pandey said that the tradition is being followed for years now. The month-long festival was marked in Allahabad city and was attended by over 25 lakh pilgrims. According to Hindu practice, a dip at the holy confluence breaks the cycle of rebirth. Feb 3, 2015

Udaipur, Feb 03 (ANI): Rajasthan Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria tested positive for swine flu and is recuperating in his residence. On Sunday evening, Gulab Chand Kataria complained of cold, cough, bad throat, fever. The next day he was tested for the H1N1 virus and by evening it was known that the test report was positive. According to reports, ten more people succumbed to swine flu in Rajasthan counting the death toll to 49 this year. Pakistani envoy hopes to bolster fragile ties with India through trade

New Delhi, Feb 03 (ANI): Pakistan ambassador to India, Abdul Basit hoped that some progress in trade ties between the two countries would help bolster a fragile peace process between the nuclear armed neighbours. Basit said that India needs to be flexible when it comes to Pakistan in terms of non-tariff barriers to trade. Basit also accused India of hardening its stand on Jammu and Kashmir when bilateral trade between the countries had seen a rise. Weather department predicts heavy snowfall in Himachal Pradesh

Shimla/ Rajouri, Feb 03 (ANI): Meteorological Department (MeT) of Himachal Pradesh issued warning of heavy snowfall in the higher reaches of the state. The cold wave has gripped the entire state with the temperatures in higher alters reaching sub zero level. The director of weather department of Himachal Pradesh, Manmohan Singh said the state will receive heavy spell of snow. He added the day temperature will improve only after Tuesday but nights would continue to remain cold with mercury dipping further. Shimla, Kinnaur, Kullu, Manali, Chamba and Sirmaur regions of the state received snowfall on Monday. Meanwhile, the lowest temperature recorded at Keylong was minus 7.5 degree Celsius. The snowfall in northern states has brought cheers to the tourists but has added to the plight of passengers travelling on those routes with snow blocking many roads. World Bank team reviews Sarnath to boost tourism in Uttar Pradesh

Sarnath, Feb 03 (ANI): A team of specialists from the World Bank arrived in Sarnath city of Uttar Pradesh to inspect the area as part of state government's programme to boost tourism at the pilgrimage site. The team, which is on a two-day visit, has come to help and suggest the government in order to develop the area and boost tourism. Sarnath, located at about 10 km from holy city of Varanasi, is the place where Buddha chose to deliver his first sermon. One of the members of the visiting team, Geetanjali said the team has come to review the area and explore the possibilities of integrating other areas to generate income for the locals. The major priority is to chalk out a development plan by inspecting the main areas. Raipur, Feb 03 (ANI): Two policemen were killed and six other security personnel injured when heavily-armed Maoists opened fire on them in Chhattisgarh. The local police, along with paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF) were conducting a combing operation in Pakhanjur area of Kanker district following a tip off when Maoists in large numbers attacked the security personnel. Authorities had rushed a chopper to airlift the injured personnel and sent reinforcements to the site to nab rebels. The Maoists, also known as Naxals in India, are inspired by the political philosophy of China's late Chairman Mao Zedong.
