Oldest elephant 'Maheshwari' dies in Thiruvananthapuram zoo

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 10 (ANI): An 85-year-old elephant, Maheshwari died in a zoo in Thiruvananthapuram city of Kerala. Maheshwari was the oldest inmate of the zoo. A couple of days back, a frail Maheshwari had collapsed after a bath and could not stand on her own since then. The zoo authorities tried lifting her up with a crane but all efforts went in vain. Surgeon at the zoo, Doctor Jacob Alexander said that Maheshwari breathed her last at 10.45 a.m. Zoo officials paid last respects to Maheshwari, who was also accorded with a proper funeral and complete last rites. New Delhi, Feb 10 (ANI): Trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange today closed 128.23 points up to stand at 28,355.62. At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty closed 39.20 points up to stand at 8,565.55. ABB and KSCL were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 8.07% and 7.79% along with GPPL and PIPAVAV DOC with an increase of 7.52% and 6.57% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include FRL and INDIABULLS REAL ESTATE LTD. with a decrease of 16.26% and 7.91% along with FSL and INDIA CEMENTS with a decrease of 6.68% and 6.42% at the close of the markets. The Auto sector is up 340.46 points at 18,960.89 while the banking sector is up 371.46 points at 21,464.07 and the reality sector is up 4.04 points at 1,702.73. Indian security officials in civil clothes to strengthen connect at borders

Siliguri, Feb 10 (ANI): In a unique initiative, India's paramilitary Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) (Armed Border Force) launched a pilot project in Siliguri in which officials would be deployed at Nepal and Bhutan borders for smooth transit of people. As a part of the project, SSB officials will be seen in civil clothes at India-Nepal and India-Bhutan borders to help civilians, who often get intimidated by seeing security officials. SSB Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Ranidanga Sector, A.K. Mallik, said that officials dressed in civil clothes would be able to establish greater trust among people. An SSB official, Shriparna, hoped that this initiative would ward off fear from civilians. The teams have been specially trained by experts from Ranidanga and Jalpaiguri sector headquarters to be empathetic to the civilians. SSB personnel have been instructed to speak politely to the tourists coming from the neighbouring countries as India shares cordial relations with the both the nations. Feb 10, 2015
