Politicos react on Teesta Setalvads bail rejection by Gujarat HC

New Delhi, Feb 13 (ANI): Congress leader Manish Tewari on Friday said activist Teesta Setalvad had played an important role in exposing the perpetrators of Gujarat riots and bringing them to justice and added that the steps taken against her were out of a sense of political vendetta. The Supreme Court had yesterday stopped the Gujarat police from arresting activist Teesta Setalvad for a day, following a petition by senior lawyer Prashant Bhushan. The apex court's relief for Setalvad's came after her anticipatory bail plea in connection with an embezzlement case was rejected by the Gujarat High Court. Besides Setalwad, her husband Javed Anand, former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri's (who was killed in Gujarat during the 2002 riots) son Tanvir Jafri are accused of misappropriating funds worth over Rs. 1 crore. Denying any misuse of funds, Setalvad had reportedly blamed political motives behind the case. Meanwhile, the BJP said that it would wait for the Supreme Court’s decision now over the case. India's retail inflation accelerates in January, but stays below RBI's target

New Delhi, Feb 13 (ANI): India's retail inflation accelerated in January after shifting to a new base year for calculating prices, but stayed well below the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) target, bolstering prospects for further interest rate cuts. Consumer prices rose an annual 5.11 percent compared with a 4.28 percent gain in December, the statistics department said on Thursday (February 12) after it changed the base year for measuring inflation to 2012 from 2010. Under the old series, inflation was reported at 5 percent in December. The revamped index carries a higher weight for education and health services, but has a lower weight for food and fuel items, which authorities say better reflects changing consumption patterns. The RBI aims to keep inflation at or below 6 percent in the period to January 2016 and is widely expected to resume its monetary easing after Finance Minister Arun Jaitley presents his annual budget on February 28. Earlier on Thursday Modi had said he was appalled that some of his supporters had built a temple to worship him, adding that such an act contradicted tradition. Modi's reaction had unnerved some of those involved in the temple project and one of the men who donated funds for temple building, Ramesh Undhad, had said the followers would now dedicate the temple to 'Mother India'. Apple growers cheer fresh snowfall in Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 13 (ANI): Fresh spell of snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir brought respite for farming community, especially to apple-growers as it eliminated impending threat of damage in production. Paddy as well as fruit growers of valley expressed satisfaction over the moderate snowfall, saying it would provide the required impetus to agriculture in the state. The valley already has limited water resources for agricultural activities and most of the times the channels remain dry. Snowfall brings in hope of replenishing water bodies. The crops vulnerable to dry weather conditions are apples, apricots, almonds and paddy.
