Floods inundate Kaziranga National Park, forest rangers step up security

Golaghat, Aug 19 (ANI): Forest rangers stepped up safety measures in Assam's Kaziranga National Park in a bid to protect the wild life as flood waters from the Brahmaputra River have inundated almost 80 per cent of its area. The park authorities have strengthened security as poachers take advantage of the floods to kill animals, particularly one-horned rhinos. During the floods, the animals stray outside the park. The rhinos and other animals normally go towards the Karbi Anglong Hills looking for higher grounds. However, District Forest Officer of Kaziranga National Park, S K Sill Sarmah said additional safety corridors have been installed in order to keep a strict vigil and safeguard the wild life.
