Suva, Nov 19 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the newly established Fiji National University (FNU) would help improve the quality of life of people by introducing new ideas and addressing problems of the island country. While addressing a gathering at FNU in Suva on Wednesday Modi said the world had turned into an open area for knowledge seekers and new researches and applications are bringing positive changes in people's lives. Students' union demands implementation of 29-year-old memorandum in Assam

New Delhi, Nov 19 (ANI): All Assam Students Union (AASU) demanded the implementation of Assam Accord, a Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) signed back in 1985, to stop illegal immigrants into the state and faciliate governance. AASU adviser Samujjal Bhattacharya on Wednesday met Home Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi to discuss the matter and laid down demands for the sealing of the India-Bangladesh border and detection of illegal immigrants among other things. He added Singh was aware that a proceeding regarding the Accord was on in the Supreme Court and they would require a month to fix a time frame for its implemention. He added that the government and Sant Rampal supporters need to solve the matter so that there is no further tension. The situation is still tense in Hisar as the controversial Sant Rampal continues to evade law and defy Haryana and Punjab High Court and police orders to surrender. The Haryana Police, which yesterday failed to arrest Rampal and produce him before the state high court after more than six hour of concerted action and violent clashes with the godman's supporters which left scores injured, will make another attempt today to arrest him. Sant Rampal's ashram in Hisar turned into a war zone on Tuesday when hundreds of policemen and Rampal's followers fought a pitched battle, as the police tried to enter the ashram to arrest the godman. Massive employment drive for youth takes place in Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 19 (ANI): A recruitment drive restarted in Jammu and Kashmir and corporate firms held workshops to provide employment to youth as the region was recovering from the worst floods in a century. The three-day drive was launched on Monday in Kashmir's capital, Srinagar, by a special initiative called Udaan or 'flight' under the public-private partnership, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) India. 'Udaan' has been working in the state for three years but had halted its efforts after floods struck the region in September. A coordinator of the NSDC, Bint Abass, said that they were renewing efforts to provide jobs to the affected youth in the state. Abass added that 18 corporate firms were participating in the drive to train and recruit youth in a wide range of sectors like banking, information technology, finance, hospitality and education. Sitharaman meets delegates from Tatarstan, Japan to discuss free trade agreements

New Delhi, Nov 19 (ANI): A Russian delegation led by Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov met Union Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi. The delegation which is in India will form a Joint Working Group (JWG) of the two countries to work on ways to strengthen trade in fertilisers, chemicals and pharmaceuticals between India and Tatarstan. Meanwhile, two delegations from Japan, including one headed by the Chief Executive Officer Of Mitsui and Co. Ltd. and Chairman of Japan-India Business Co-operation Committee, Masami Iijima and Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) headed by Hiroyuki Ishige also met Sitharaman. India quarantines man recovering from Ebola

New Delhi, Nov 19 (ANI): India has quarantined a man who was cured of Ebola in Liberia but continued to show traces of the virus in samples of his semen after arriving in the country, Health Minister said. The ministry said in a statement that the Indian national had been shown to be negative for Ebola in tests conforming to World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines, but had been quarantined as a precautionary measure when he arrived at New Delhi airport on November 10. Later, tests of his semen detected traces of the virus. Union Health Minister, JP Nadda, said that body fluids were tested in National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and Institute of Virology (NIV) where both have tested positive. The Indian man carried with him documents from Liberia that stated he had been cured. He will be kept in quarantine until the virus is no longer present in his body, and will undergo tests over the next 10 days or so, a senior Health Ministry official said. Modi arrived here from Melbourne on the last leg of his three-nations’ ten-day tour after a hectic four-city Australia visit.
