"White" carbohydrates such as pasta, bread, rice and potatoes should be avoided and substituted with whole grains, brown rice and fruits and vegetables and limit portion sizes. Kathak danseuse Sitara Devi passes away after prolonged illness

Mumbai, Nov 25 (ANI): Eminent Kathak danseuse Sitara Devi died early Tuesday following prolonged illness. She was 94. Sitara Devi was on ventilator and her condition was serious while she was admitted to the Jaslok Hospital, said her son-in-law. Sitara Devi became a Kathak legend and is known as a pioneering force in bringing the genre to Bollywood. She is the recipient of prestigious awards like Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Padma Shri and Kalidas Samman. Sitara Devi was born in the family of Brahmin 'kathakar' Sukhdev Maharaj in Kolkata in 1920. When she turned 11, the family moved to Mumbai, where she impressed Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore with a three-hour solo recital. The funeral of eminent Kathak legend will take place Thursday morning. She is survived by a son and a daughter. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condoled on the loss. Kathmandu, Nov 25 (ANI): Nepal's capital Kathmandu is getting ready to host the 18th summit of leaders from the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). Foreign Secretaries of India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Maldives are setting the agenda for the summit due to be held on November 26 and 27.The preparations for summit are in full swing in Nepal as the authorities have heightened the security for the two-day event where leaders from eight nations will meet and discuss the core issues of importance. As last stage preparations are being carried out, even artisans are busy giving final touches to earthen pots that will adorn the venue to welcome leaders at the meet. Nepal has two limousines and has rented six bullet-proof cars from India for the visiting leaders. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Nepal on 25th in the afternoon and return late in the evening of 27th November. Dhaka, Nov 25 (ANI): A former leader of Bangladesh's ruling party Awami League, Mobarak Hossain, was sentenced to death by a war crimes tribunal in connection with atrocities committed during the 1971 war of independence from Pakistan. Hossain, a local leader expelled from the Awami League party in 2011, was found guilty of charges including mass killing, abduction and torture, prosecutors said. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2010 opened an inquiry into war crimes committed during the nine-month war. Monday's verdict is the first against any ruling party leader, and counters claims that Hasina is targeting her political rivals. Polling begins in 13 constituencies of Jharkhand amidst tight security

Jharkhand, Nov 25 (ANI): More than 3.3 million voters are all set to exercise their franchise as 13 Maoist-affected constituencies of Jharkhand on Tuesday went on polls as the first phase of five-stage assembly election gets underway in the tribal-dominated state. The polls will decide on the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly as the results are to be announced on December 23. Indo-Bhutan border check post gates close after unnatural death of Indian girl in Bhutan

Jalpaiguri, Nov 25 (ANI): Indo-Bhutan border check post gates were closed after the protesters turned violent over the unnatural death of a 17-year-old Indian girl in neighbouring Bhutan. According to the police sources, the officials of India and Bhutan government took this decision to avoid any untoward incident in the sensitive border area. Violence erupted on Sunday when Bhutan police surrendered the girl dead body to the family members without explaining the cause of death. The villagers had blocked the Chamurchi Indo-Bhutan border check post in Jalpaiguri district. The district police have also arrested five persons in connection with Sunday's violence. However, elder sister of the girl, Sumita Lohar alleged that her sister was raped. The body of the girl has been sent to the Jalpaiguri Sadar hospital for post mortem. New Delhi, Nov 25 (ANI): Indian experts on Monday rubbished US think-tank report on Pakistan's growing nuclear weaponry saying it was being exaggerated as every country had right to equip itself in a bid to ensure security. According to a study by the US based think-tank Council on Foreign Relations, Pakistan's nuclear strength could reach up to 200 nuclear devices in the next six years. It also said South Asia was most at risk from unresolved territorial disputes, terrorism and growing nuclear strength. First phase of JandK assembly polls begin on Tuesday

Jammu and Kashmir, Nov 25 (ANI): The polling for the first phase in the Assembly Elections of Jammu and Kashmir began on Tuesday as people queued outside polling booths to caste their votes. About 400 companies of security forces have been deployed to ensure free and fair polls in the first phase of the assembly elections. Residents lined up outside the polling booths to exercise their franchise fighting the extreme cold weather as they hoped for better governance in the state. Of the 15 Assembly seats going to polls on Tuesday, 11 segments of Chenab valley and North Kashmir were highly militancy infested areas and some of them still have militant influx. A total of 10,502,50 voters, including 5,00,539 women, will decide the fate of 12 sitting MLAs, including seven ministers among 123 candidates at 1,900 polling stations in 15 constituencies.
