Defence Minister lauds Kashmir for record voter turnout despite militant attacks

Srinagar, Dec 11 (ANI): Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Thursday commended the people of Kashmir for record voter turnout and foiling all attempts by militants to disturb the ongoing poll process. Jammu and Kashmir recorded 58 percent voting in the third phase of elections on December 09, which was nearly six percent higher than the last time. Despite the biting cold and series of militant attacks, polling booths in Kashmir witnessed serpentine queues of residents waiting to cast their votes for a stable and able government. The five-phase elections in 87-member Kashmir assembly began on November 25. In the first two phases the voter turnout was high - more than 70 percent each.The polling will end on December 20 and results will be declared on December 23. Parrikar, who earlier during the day paid tribute to the soldiers who were killed in the militant attacks, lauded the army for tackling tough situations in the war torn valley. Dec 11, 2014

Bengaluru/Gurgaon/New Delhi, Dec 11 (ANI): Bengaluru on Thursday banned unregistered cabs in the wake of alleged rape of a female passenger in New Delhi by a driver of US cab company Uber. The transport administration in Bengaluru has taken strict measures aimed at preventing crimes against women professionals travelling in cabs by monitoring taxi drivers. The department is also insisting that all cabs are fitted with GPS. Police have also issued notices to all cab operators in the city to undergo police verification by December 31 or face action. Vada curry Ingredients For vada Chana dal - 1 cup Salt to taste A litttle Water (If required) Oil for frying For curry Oil - 1 tbsp Onion - 3 chopped Green chilli - 2 thinly sliced Fennel seeds- 1/2 tsp Cinnamon stick, Cloves, Bay leaf & Cardamom Garlic - 6 to 7 cloves chopped Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp Sambar powder - 2 tsp Salt to taste A few Chopped Coriander leaves A few Curry leaves Method: 1. Soak the Channa dal for 3 hours & drain the water. 2. In a mixer jar add soaked channa dal, salt, a little water & grind into a coarse mixture. 3. Flatten coarse mixture & deep fry it & keep aside. 4. Next step is making the curry, In a deep pan add oil, cinnamon stick, cloves, bay leaf, cardamom, fennel seeds, onion, green chilli, garlic, curry leaves & saute it for a few minutes. 5. Add turmeric powder, sambar powder, salt & mix it. 6. Now its time to add fried vada by breaking it. Pour enough water & cook it for about 15 to 20 minutes in a medium flame. 7. Boil until the vadas gets soft and gets absorbed well in the gravy. Stir in such a way to mash it if needed to get a thick curry. Garnish with coriander leaves and curry leaves. 8. New Delhi, Dec 11 (ANI): Lawyers in Delhi courts said that they will continue their strike for the third day on Thursday protesting the delay in tabling an amendment bill of enhancing pecuniary jurisdiction of district courts. Chairman of co-ordination committee of bar associations RK Wadhwa said that all the district courts in Delhi, in its emergent meeting last week, decided to abstain from work with effect from December 09, till the bill is tabled in Parliament. The committee said that despite assurances, the proposed bill recommending enhancement of pecuniary jurisdiction to Rs 2 crore for the courts, has found no mention in the agenda of ongoing Winter Session of Parliament.
