PDP confident of clear majority in JandK

Srinagar, Dec 22 (ANI): Expressing confidence about winning the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections by a clear majority, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday asserted that the party won't require any alliance to form the government in the state. PDP leader Naeem Akhtar said in Srinagar that exit polls were credible in showing the trends but they don't have exact numbers. Security personnel kill two militants in Assam

Chirang, Dec 22 (ANI): Security forces killed two militants and rescued a kidnapped businessman in Assam. Two militants of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) were killed in gun battle in Assam's Chirang district along Bhutan border.Security forces rescued an abducted trader from the militants. Following a tip-off, a joint team of army and police launched the operation at Chirang reserve forest area. The rescued trader was identified as Sushil Deb. Security forces recovered one M-16 rifle, one AK series rifle, one Insas rifle, two pistols, 552 rounds of live ammunition from the slain militants. Police said that a combing operation was launched by the specially trained commandos of army, paramilitary forces and Assam police against the NDFB militants in the bordering areas of Bhutan. New Delhi, Dec 22 (ANI): Politicos reacted on Monday as Janata Parivar staged a protest against the government at Jantar Mantar, over issues of Black money, unemployment, farmer issues and communal tensions in the country. Minister of State Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that no one would raise an objection if the ministers would stage a peaceful protest over the issues. However, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said that Janata Parivar is not a Parivar or union and that they will dilute after next Lok Sabha elections. Haridwar, Dec 22 (ANI): Thousand of workers of youth wing of Congress party held a demonstration against yoga guru Ramdev in Haridwar city. Irate workers broke police barricades and tried to proceed towards Ramdev's hermitage. Police used water canons and resorted to mild force to disperse the protesters. The workers alleged that Ramdev, in his campaign during general elections, had promised that if Narendra Modi came to power, he would bring back black money within 100 days, but nothing happened even after 200 days of Modi's rule. Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid offers prayers at Sufi saint shrine in Ajmer

Ajmer, Dec 22 (ANI): Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid offered prayers at the historic 13th century shrine of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti at Ajmer in Rajasthan. Security arrangements in the city were beefed up during his visit in wake of Peshawar attack. Hamid arrived by a special helicopter and headed straight to the shrine. Hamid is on a six-day visit to India to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries. He is visiting India on an invitation by President Pranab Mukherjee, who visited Bangladesh in March 2013. New Delhi, Dec 22 (ANI): Dense fog enveloped Delhi on Monday, adversely affecting flights and trains. According to the media reports, 16 flights were delayed due to dense fog. Fifty trains were also delayed while 12 others were rescheduled due to fog. Visibility on roads also remained very poor. Bengaluru, Dec 22 (ANI): Christmas is just round the corner and the very mention of this festival automatically brings scrumptious cakes to everyone's minds. To add to the festive fervour, the annual cake show in Bengaluru city in Karnataka is back. 75-years-old, Ramachandran has been organising this festival for the last 40 years. The highlight this year is a 25x22 feet cake replica of the Indian parliament. A member of the organising team, Gautam, said it took three months for almost 30 people to finish this mega project. Like every year, this year too, the cake show is attracting thousands of visitors. Manipur, Dec 22 (ANI): After obtaining his master's degree in Social Work from Maharashtra, Aaron Pam Shang returned back to his village in Imphal West and established Sharon industries in 2010. He produces a wide range of products including phenyl, dish wash, cleaning detergents and herbal disinfectants and even supply raw material to local self-help groups to generate employment. The aim was to generate employment for the youth. Aaron markets his products in Manipur and has achieved a monthly turnover of Rs. 10 lakh. He has set-up an outlet in Nagampal and sells raw material to SHGs and others. At present, eight workers are employed in the factory. With the decline in insurgency, many educated youth from Manipur are setting up businesses in their villages and towns. Kolkata, Dec 21 (ANI): Various non-governmental organisations and schools participated in 'Walk for Peace' in Kolkata on Sunday (December 21) to commemorate the victims of Taliban attack on a school in Pakistani city of Peshawar. At least 132 students and nine staff members were killed on December 16 when Taliban gunmen broke into the school and opened fire, in the bloodiest massacre the country has seen for years. After the attack, the Taliban had declared that all of those children deserved to die because they were part of the military establishment. The incident has given rise to an unprecedented outpouring of grief, anger and tribute paying ceremonies across the country.
