Masood's sentencing proves CBI works independent of Congress: Rashid Alvi

New Delhi, Oct 01 (ANI): After Congress MP Rasheed Masood convicted in the MBBS recruitment scam, was sentenced to four years of imprisonment by a Delhi court on Tuesday, Congress leader Rashid Alvi said that the case proves that CBI works independently, unlike BJP's allegation on CBI being a 'caged parrot' and also said that this is unfortunate for the party and that Masood will definitely move higher court for leniency.

India will fully finance current account deficit: Arvind Mayaram

New Delhi, Oct 01 (ANI): India's Economic Affairs Secretary, Arvind Mayaram, said on Tuesday that the country would finance its current account deficit fully in the fiscal year ending March without drawing down on its reserves, and would also contain the fiscal deficit at 4.8 percent of GDP. He also said that economic growth will pick up in the second half of the fiscal year. Mayaram while addressing a news conference in New Delhi expressed confidence and said that they would be able to contain the current account deficit. Mayaram added that the government would not have to go beyond the finance ministry's planned market borrowing for the year, and would be able to meet its budgeted revenue target. Mayaram also said that the elevated level of current account deficit was mainly due to gold imports.

Shinde's letter has nothing to do with elections: DP Tripathi

New Delhi, Oct 01 (ANI): After Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde sent a letter chief ministers saying wrongfully detained minority community members should be immediately released, compensated and rehabilitated, NCP leader DP Tripathi said that the letter has nothing to do with the upcoming 2014 General Elections and that any community whether minority or majorities should not be punished without reasons. Mumbai, Oct 01 (ANI): Jailed Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt who was on Tuesday granted 14 days parole for medical reasons said that he has got furlough which is the right of every prisoner in jail. Media reports said that 53-year-old Dutt, who is currently lodged in Pune's Yerawada jail, has been given this benefit to be able to spend some time with his family. He is currently serving a 42-month sentence in connection with the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case. Dutt is reportedly said to be experiencing pain because of blood clots in his legs. He also suffers from high blood pressure and wants to consult doctors while out on parole.

Shinde's letter: Muslims targeted without reason and should be saved, says SP

Sexual assault case: Rajasthan HC rejects Asarams bail plea

New Delhi, Oct 01 (ANI): The Rajasthan High Court on Tuesday rejected the bail plea of self-styled godmanAsaram Bapu, arrested on allegation of sexually assaulting a minor girl. Asaram, had filed a bail application before the Jodhpur bench of the high court on September 13. The bail application first came up for hearing on September 16 and since the arguments remained inconclusive, the high court put off the proceedings till September 18 and then decided to hear his bail plea on October 01. Asaram is lodged in the Jodhpur Central Jail since September 02.

Khandwa jail incident: Security lapses responsible, says Congress

Seven prisoners escape from Khandwa jail in MP, one nabbed

Khandwa/Bhopal, Oct 1 (ANI): In a major embarrassment to the Madhya Pradesh police, seven prisoners escaped from state's Khandwa jail in the wee hours of Tuesday. According to reports, six of the men allegedly belong to the Students Islamic Movement of India or SIMI, which was banned in 2001 over its alleged terror links. However, one of the prisoners has been caught. Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Uma Shankar Gupta promised to take an action against the erring officials and said that the authorities would probe as to why this incident happened. The police have now declared a high alert in Khandwa and adjoining areas.
